Just did a temp check for OC@ 645/880 on dell's xps m1530, temp peaked @ 92 degrees..
Apparent this is because the dedicated GPU in the system has no fan of its own and relies on the cpu fan, intake and exhaust to cool down. What a burn.
Anyone else reach this temp when OCing?
How much lower do you think temp will be if using a lap top cooler?

-
3-7c on CPU/GPU and up to 10c on the HDD if theres vents
A notebook cooler can only cool from the outside, not in the inside where its most needed. Unless you force induct it to the notebooks intake vents
Whats your room temps? -
you might wanne blow all the dust out with a compressor since my m1530 runs cool at all times. OC at 650/900 65C max
-
But yeah; check your vents. They might need some cleaning! -
I did, lol. But I have an 8400GS, and this thing starts artifacting at 500/500.

-
So what do you do for cleaning vents? can of compressed air and just blow from the outside?
-
1: raise the back of the laptop
2: check the fans and vents for dust
3: get a notebook cooler
4: Arctic Silver 5
5: Undervolt CPU
6: check my guide, also links to Cooling Central. -
Something's very wrong with your system. The M1530 is an excellent system to overclock on. Maybe the penryn in mine helps as they run fairly cool, but in any case, I'm running 685/1010 clocks (stable) on the 8600GT, and am topping out at 79deg under heavy use for a few hours. Idles at 60.
I have carefully cleaned/polished the cooling assembly / heatsinks and AS5'd the CPU and GPU. -
I OC'ed mine to only to 575/1150/750 and the GPU reaches 80C sometimes
-
i max at 80C at 720/900 o_o
-
Hey lost thread, i found you, now riiissseee FROM THE GRAVE!!!! lol
at 650 mhz gpu clock and 875 mhz memory clock my xps m1530 tops at 90 C and my cpu reached 80..... WHOAH!!!
mabe change that concrete dell puts as cooling paste for artic silver??? -
my max with OC GPU (700/1000) is 81C, avg about 77-78C
-
My temps on full load are about 74-75 (725/1050)
m1530: bad system to OC on?
