    Hi all.

I upgraded/downgraded/regraded (depending on your perspective) to xp on my m1530 following the guides in the forum (drivers provided by arcanepaladin/sinstoic in this thread) and all is well with that minus one lil' detail.

Wireless driver works fine (I have the intel card) but if I shut the lid and computer goes into standby, when it wakes back up, the wifi cuts out about 10 seconds afterwards. The wifi light next to the power button goes out, and nothing I can do will get it to come back save a reboot. Anyone else seen this by chance and have a solution?

I'm also in the "trying to get a non-grainy screen" loops so if this is by chance hardware related it'd be in my best interest to go for a machine swap rather than a screen replacement for resolution of that.

    Any help/input appreciated. Thanks.

I've not had the same experience as you. You should probably post what Wifi card you have. However, I have had similar type problems on other machines. I have the Intel BGN card that's offered with the M1530 and am running XP and don't experience this problem.

One of the first things I do when I set up a new machine is turn off power management and set max power for the wifi card. Not doing this has demonstrated similar and different problems with wifi use. My reasoning is, either I want full wifi power when I'm using it or I've intentionally just shut it off when not, such as on airplanes or on battery power in a place that doesn't have any wifi access.

This can improve your connection reliability and speed and prevent power saving features from interfering with good wireless performance.

Post back and let us know if this helps your problem or doesn't.

My card is the iIntel Pro Wireless 3945 802.11A/B/G MIN. I'm on max performance in Dell Quickset. Is there elsewhere to set the power managment options of the wireless card?

    Thanks.

OK, after more hunting in device manager > network adapters > Intel Pro Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection > Properties I found the "power management" tab and unchecked the "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" option. That solved it.

Can you still go into standby after you changed this setting? I haven't tried it yet on my m1530.

Cool. Yeah, that's where I meant, in the hardware properties. I don't like that Dell Quickset, for things just like you experienced. I don't run Quickset on my system. I've had some weird similar behavior with the video, too. Unplugging my notebook and the video card down clocks itself so much I couldn't watch certain video codecs and it wouldn't reclock itself up until I rebooted it. It's all well and good to conserver power, but if it shuts things down so much you can't do what you wanted to do, the notebook might as well be off.

I have the same problem with my M1330 with XP and can't seem to figure out why.

After standby or hibernate, it wont auto connect back to the network(s) giving an IP error. Had to toggle on/off or ipconfig /refresh to get it back up.

Jaycee--Sounds a bit different than what I had because I couldn't get any response out the card at all after coming back out--ipconfig, repair, disable/enable. Well, there's tons of configuration options in the properties of the wireless card in device manager--write down the defaults (in case you need to go back to them) and start fiddling and see if you can find any way to make it better.

Sonic: yeah, I supposed Quickset isn't bringing much to the table, but I do like the little volume and brightness bars than come up in response to button presses. Haven't noticed the video card stepdown yet so I may let sleeping dogs lie and leave it like I have it now. Now if only I could get a new LG screen like yours...

Just curious if anyone found a solution to the outstanding problem that was being addressed - I'm having the same issue and turning off Power Management/other Device Manager features does nothing for me...(M1530)

    hi bumping this thread

    same problem - very annoying!

if i close the lid, or hibernate etc the wireless cuts out after about 5 secs.

only way to get it connected is to turn it off and on again!

ETA: sorry - I am still using vista so I don't think this is an XP only problem

Hi, I'm also having this issue with my M1530, I've deselected the enable power management option in device manager on the Wireless card but the problem continues to happen. Is really starting to drive me a little crazy!

I also have a Latitue D430 which I use for work, I only upgraded to it the other day and noticed that it too is disabling the wireless when going into standby mode and nothing will bring it out except a reboot.

Would appreciate any further suggestions anyone has on the M1530?

    Thx
