    hi guys

ive run into a little problem with my m1330. ive lost bass. im yet to try it on hdmi, but my speakers/headphones have completely cut all low range response.

im running vista SP1, bios version A06 (i think) , sigmatel audio codec v 6.10.0.5515. I have upgraded to a newer version before, but i lost one of my audio outputs, but this does solve the lack of bass problem. i installed the old drivers and have been fine for 2 months until today where the problem has started again.

Sounds odd.. Checked equalizer settings? Or uninstalling the creative s/w?

Hmm, I'd say loss of low freq o/p is more than just a "little" problem, lol.

But seriously, do check the equalizer (Windows Bass & Treble sliders since there's no sophisticated SW delivered with the Sigmatel drivers, afaik...) - some SW apps do [accidentally] mess up the Windows Audio settings (and these settings remain, ah messed up, when said application exits).

I lost all sound recently when I accepted a Windows Update for IDT Audio Codec drivers, but successfully rolled back to the 5515s.

All I can say is good luck & please let us know what the problem was once you've figured it out...

no im not using the audigy software.

its very much an intermittent problem, sometimes a restart fixes the problem, sometimes it doesnt.

Are you sure your headphone/speaker jack is making a good connection?
When you say "speakers/headphones" do you mean external speakers or the dinky little speakers inside the laptop?

The internal speakers don't even pretend to have bass.... Have you tried both the audio outputs?

both audio outputs. and yes , theres no bass reproduction on either of my senheissers , or my yamaha speakers. i doubt its a physical problem, on account of it working fine with different drivers, just losing an output. im actually surprised noone else has had this problem

Well that's like a "minor" detail... anyways, sort of rules out an issue of settings...

By "restart", do you mean reboot or turning the Notebook off and x hours later, back on? The reason I ask is that the first might suggest drivers or driver conflict and the latter might suggest HW issues (like an op-amp* on the way out).

Finally, I use a Total Air Head to amplify - and, more importantly, control my bass output :D

*Just speculating as I'm not an audio circuit specialist by any means...

    Hi all,

I have the same problem on my dell xps m1330. No bass! At first I thought this is due to some crap speakers as I had normal bass response through the headphones. I also tried all Sigmatel audio drivers I could find for the 1330 as I also have huge problems with widndows update (simply not working-have been reading sigmatel drivers could block it). I also can't run SP1 for Vista. Neither works, the downloaded SP1 nor windows update.

I almost abbandoned all hope but if someone still could figure out what to do, I would be glad to get a suggestion :)

Currently I have the 6.10.0.5609 Sigmatel driver from Dell support site. It should fix the problems, but it does nothing...

I just had a similar problem on my XPS M1210 running Vista Business, and i found this thread just before I figured out a fix. To fix it, here's what I did -

    Open Sound in Control Panel.
Open up Properties for your Speaker/Headphones under the Playback tab.
Under the Enhancements tab, select the checkbox to "Disable all enhancements"
The next time you play something, you should hear the Bass.

Figure this thread hasn't been dead long enough for me to be afraid to bring it back to life.

My m1530 is also having issues with the Sigmatel drivers. I didn't have this until recently, when I upgraded from the default Vista drivers that were working fine since I wanted to use 5.1 surround on my m1530. Now the Sigmatel drivers crash after a period of time (perhaps after I unplug a USB device?) Specifically, STacSV.exe stops responding and Vista shuts it down. Sounds still works afterward, but low end is completely gone, and is gone til I restart.

I'm using the latest possible Sigmatel drivers. Is there some incompatibility that needs to be resolved? I'm usingn 64-bit Vista. Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem. Sigmatel drivers from Dell yielded no bass and a tin sound while the Vista High Def driver gave me good sound but no microphone array. After hours of struggle with different versions of drivers, I found one that works and has not crashed the STaVC.exe in a week of use. The driver is a generic Sigmatel driver made for a variety of Dell laptops.

The file is R171788.exe and can be found here: http://support.euro.dell.com/suppor...eid=R171788&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=235764

Hope this helps everyone! Oh, Im running an m1330 with Vista Business SP1 64bit but Ive confirmed this driver works with Vista x86 as well. Let me know if youve still got problems!

    Did you two try this?
I don't have an XPS, but I had a similar issue with my Studio 1535 and the IDT audio drivers. Disabling all enhancements made everything much louder, and with much more bass on my Logitech Z-2300's. And when you can't hear bass on the Z-2300's, you know something's wrong. :p
