Is anyone running win8.1 on Dell XPS (L502x)?
I have installed two months ago, but it was overheating too much and the fan always running on maximum speed, did MS solved the problem or still??

I do not think that the Win 8.1 could cause the laptop overheating, there are many other to look into first.
I have the laptop in my signature and have had the same problem, first was the Turbo Boost , I disabled it in Bios, (the Bios is modded),
Secondly, I watched the processes of all programs, in my case I had the malware byte that was consuming around 50% cpu all the time. I had it together with Emsisoft and I had to uninstall one of them. Now everything works perfect, the fan is off and temps around 45-50 degrees, just surfing and a few pages open, even when watching a full Hd movie the fan stays off...
Beside make sure your fan is clean and thermal paste is good.
I all the above done and still have problems, could be the motherboard. I had one changed, this one seems much better.

I created a UEFI USB boot stick with 8.1 however I keep getting "your pc ran into a problem and needs to restart" after "getting files ready for installation.... 0%
