Hi, I recently got my m1530, ordered the 1680x1050 screen. love it, but got the samsung screen. Initially it was great, no grainy effects, but after some games and stuff i noticed that some particular graphics had scanlines, about 1-2 mm thick!

Got a tech to come replace my screen, he brought an LG one! booted up again and the problem was not there anymore yay. But now looking closely, now i see the scanlines again, now about 1 pixel thick, and apparent on almost all textures, didn't notice it when tech was there, but using the laptop now i can see it everywhere!

you don't see the scanline effect on bright images, only darker textures.

eg. the start menu in vista. (attached screenshot, but couldn't get good pics with camera) what i'm sure are supposed to be solid colours, like the blue headings in this forums have very light white scanlines. hard to describe, but sorta looks like there is a slight white horizontal line between each pixel row, but for dark textures. does not appear on bright textures.

am i going nuts? I didn't notice it like this when i had the samsung screen, but quite paranoid over it now with the lg screen.

I got the system delivered on the 5th. Can i get a replacement. but if its still like this return it? or too long after the 21day return policy thing i've heard of.

    thanks

I can't see what you're pointing to in that picture.
Do you see it if you use an external monitor?

Ahh i see with your new picture thats strange. Try going into your properties and changing the refresh rate of your monitor. It's probably set at 60 hz, try upping it to 85 hz. Also, check the settings on your video card, as they may have defaulted to something that is causing the lines on your monitor. Also, try using a bulb for lighting as compared to florescent lighting by your computer.

    thanks for fast replies.

i really think i'm going nuts. its not very noticible, and i know from browsing these forums the LG screens are much better.

had a hard time deciding on what laptop due to fears of the screen, perhaps its just my paranoia getting the better of me

    k, i can't not notice the lines,

after playing with images, i noticed that the lines are more apparrent towards the bottom of the screen. e.g. if i notice the lines on a texture that should be a solid colour, then i move the window to the top of the screen and the lines fade and the colour becomes more solid.

also when i put a black image on the screen, i notice a bit of glow from the bottom and the top of the screen.

talked to dell service, they said that it might be my video card.

That's light leakage. Every screen has that to some extent.

As for the scan line thing... I don't know, I can't see it in your photo.

Which LG display did you receive? I have the LPL010F and have the same type of lines. Check the Hardware Ids under the monitor's driver details in device manager.

I've learned to live with the lines after hearing about the Samsungs.

    Hi, I have an LG also..(love it) ;) :)

I was looking at the screen shot...and, maybe just a bit of (light leakage)?, though..really not much at all ;) :)

You want to make sure that you are going to be happy with the screen, as it is going to be there *staring back at you* for the time that you own it ;) :)

    OH, Garfield is cool!
