Well, it is the lowest spec model of the 701x offered - you're getting about $250 off the list price [go to the main store, put a lowest spec 701x in your cart to see for yourself], which is nice but....

702x's are just around the corner - which means the lowest specs will become even less desirable and might become a lot cheaper.

I stress the might. There's no way to tell at the moment, although the outlet store is showing a number of 701x's whereas early Jan time there were none (that I could see). So, make that of what you will. Dell know this, and know that most savvy customers know this, which is why they're offering a 20% coupon to sweeten the deal - but, like all things, these coupons are most effective the higher the base price (e.g. I got £600/$950 off full list price on my machine through offers / coupons etc), which as you're buying the lowest price model, is a smaller saving.

Another way to think about it - compare the full list price ($950ish) with the price without a coupon ($850ish) - not a great saving on a refurb model.

    Real questions:

    1) What's your budget?
    2) When do you need it by? (aka, can you wait till mid Feb?)

Seems like L702xs aren't coming anytime soon with the recent news about the massive recall regarding the sandy bridge chipsets. I'd say you should go for the L501x given the 1080p screen is far superior to the 900p in the 17"

Sorry to do this to you:

I also note you're American; American buyers have a lot more wiggle room than UK buyers in terms of nice deals out there. Dell in the UK seems to be the best deals (with Kobalt looking like an equal, or in some respects superior for gaming brand, price equal).

I'd ask on the "which laptop should I buy" part of the forum, and list your budget etc. The 701x is nice, but you've got the lowest spec version - I'm not sure on the American market if you couldn't get a better machine for your dollars.
