I got my laptop about 1 month a ago.

. I have the Logitech mouse with nano receiver connected to USB 3 port. It will work fine for several hours at times and then all of sudden will stop working. Only thing that will bring it back is to reboot. However, once it fails in this way, the computer will not shut down. I have to physically hold down the power button to shut it down.
also I have this problem with other usb 3 ports as well.this ports have problem with any accessories like mouse ,external hdd.flash disk .printer .wireless keyboard .

what about you ?do you have this problem ?or its just for me .

Have you tried reinstalling the drivers?

By the way doing a non-ACPI shutdown will hose your OS, not recommended.

If you've had the machine a month, have you seen that loads of the drivers from Dell are dated more recently than that? Includes for the USB3 controller. Or you've tried all of them already?

I'm using a Logitech mouse with the nano receiver right now - not had this problem.

Maybe you need to speak to Dell - it's a new machine and shouln't be doing that, there's a limit to how much poking you should have to do, especially if it's happening with any devices you plug in.

after 1 week searching for solution :
this problem is a very common problem , 95% of xps laptops have this problem.after 5 months dell is still working for a solution but there is not any solution for this problem yet.
(problem is : usb3 ports randomly turn off and if you want to tern it on you have to restart)
if you want to know how is problem effecting xps and their owners and what dell is doing for this problem go here:

Bluelove2, where did you hear that 95% of XPS laptops have this problem? I went to the Dell website you linked, read the whole thing, and only saw one, maybe two, L502s mentioned.
With wireless mice/keyboards, don't forget to take into account possible interference from other devices in your house.

Out of interest, have you tried disabling windows power management of the USB hubs in device manager?

Rick 64D this problem is for all xps laptop include L502 ,501 ,17".because dell have used same usb3 hardware all xps laptops .

I have tried every thing .but my problem is not solved.my laptop randomly turnoff usb3 ones a day .
its really annoying .I hope dell can solve this problem with bios update .but its looks like a very big problem because after months dell cant solve this problem.
as you can see in dell forum .allot of xps owners complaining about this problem.

So if it is the same for all, what's different about the 5% of XPS laptops that are apparently working ok?

Have you tried unplugging and plugging back in the Logitech nano receiver?

(I've had this issue occasionally with my Latitude, and that seemed to resolve it...still not a fix, I know.)

Here are two troubleshooting steps you might try. It's possible that for some reason the computer can't turn the devices back on once it has suspended them for power saving reasons.

    1) in the Advanced Power Options, disable USB selective suspend.

    2) In Device Manager, in the Power Management tab, uncheck the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" for each USB hub with that option.

    any updates on this???

im supposed to get my l502x today in the mail and just found out about the usb 3.0 issue. very upset! it seems like it is a power issue...on the dell forums one conclusion was that there is not enough stable power being delivered to the usb 3.0 ports - this means it might not be fixable with just a driver/firmware fix!!!

There is so much jumping to conclusions in that thread that I go there to lose weight. That post about power being the cause was a huge stretch of the imagination with no real evidence to support the idea.

FWIW, I have been contacted by the moderator over there for more detailed info on my situation. I have no problems using either port alone with any kind of device. The problem I have experienced is with a wireless mouse in the back port and a USB 3.0 drive on the side port, the mouse starts stuttering and jumping around. I don't know what the solution is, but in that other thread Dell has replaced motherboards and it hasn't fixed it. Note that the USB 3.0 ports are NOT on the motherboard, so I'm not surprised by that. I suspect that at best it will be a driver update to resolve the issue. At worst, a new USB board. Just my opinion...
