thinking i might try and source a mobo and cpu if they can be found at a reasonable price i fancy some core i7 action and the wait for the precision is taking its toll !

Hard to say on this one... the service manual for the 1645 links back to the 1640 manual, which suggests that the two might be built identically. Or it might be a bug. I think it has a fairly good chance of working since the 1640 is fairly similar to the 1645, but it might be something like the D620/D630 where everything is identical save for a USB port or something silly like that.

Try it and find out :D

lol hmm that could be an expensive gamble !

i wonder if it would run cooler than the 1640 in my sig , that 2.8ghz c2d is hot! but i reckon the i7 may idle lower and run more efficiently i need to find the tdp of the i7 to compare

the 4670 gpu may cancel any temp reduction gained in the newerr platform

that and the terrible venting system on the studio xps makes me wonder

the i7 has a better cooler on it so you'd have to also upgrade that.

the i7 runs ok at idle, put as soon as your doing some tasks its gona get a lot hotter than ur processor in signature, I also think they probably have better cooling in 1645, or bios is modified 100% on 1645 so the fans would work longer and more often
