    Hi all,

I' d like to know whether changing the OS on my XPS studio 13 (upgrading to Windows 7 or installing Linux) will void the hardware warranty.

    Regards

changing OS isn't going to void your warrant, dell i offering free upgrades to windows 7.
If something does happen to your machine then you can always reinstall the old OS with the dell provided disks or a partition before sending it in for repair.

It makes it harder for them to troubleshoot when you are not running the original OS. It does not void your warranty, but they might ask you to reinstall the original OS if they want to try and rule out software related issues.

+1. One of the things I enjoy about Dell's warranty is on-site service which pretty much makes whether they support it or not irrelevant. If they sell your model with Ubuntu pre-installed (as they do on the SXPS) then there is pretty much nothing to worry about. If they do not, they may request you have Windows installed to perform trouble-shooting (though for this you can just dual boot and not mention it).

Logically they should also support optional OS's shipped with the computer. I.e. their release of Ubuntu.
