    GT 435M Prob/XPSL501X

    hi..

I have serious problem here, need urgent help!!

    I own a XPS 15 L501X Laptop which has 2GB GT 435M, 4GB RAM, Core i7 740QM

I was regular at playing L4D2, Shift, Crysis, MOH pretty comfortably at med-high settings with no or neglible lag. (eg . 1600x900, all high except shadow medium for MOH, L4D2 almost maxed out was real smooth).

Yesterday when i started playing L4d2 just for one go.. i found it lagging, where it was just fine previously, it annoyed me and i tried running shift for an instance to check anythings wrong. Shift started fine but all of a sudden i cd see this message "PhysX > CPU" on my screen and when i started a race.. it was lagging too...

It happened out of no where and i didnt change any settings over my GPU and also surprised to see why PhysX is poining to CPU instead of the GPU.
Is it the very reason of the LAG?????????? i mean cards can depreciate this quick right??? itsonly 2 months i got myself this XPS!!! and it was running fine. Please help me out telling me what cd go wrong??? if anything to do with hardware of s/w.

i have alerady posted this in other two threads... but nobody seems to answer it...can anyone share some idea??? i only have very little time leftto be online in this forum!!
    :'(

Sounds to me like your CPU is trying to do the GPU's job.

Try maybe re-installing the nvidia driver to see if that helps.

thnx for ur reply... i justed sorted out the Physx> cpu message thing! here i found in nvidia control panel, an option "show PhysX indicator" cheked somehow... and i just turned the bloody indicator off to get rid of the message.. but doesnt really solve the lagging issue.. will try updating the driver as suggested.

sounds like your throttling, run HWmonitor and monitor your temps while gaming. Throttlestop will help with your problem but be careful it might overheat your system

Dust out your computer or perform a repaste. It seems like its throttling like mourningstar said.
Another possiblilty is that it is using the integrated graphic card. You might of changed some settings.

Definitely dust it out with compressed air.

Agreed that overheating is probably the problem.

CPUs and GPUs are basically an all or nothing type of thing. If they work, they work. It's not like a car engine.

In the Nvidia control panel, go to Physx config and make sure your Nividia GPU is selected.
If that's OK, try installing the latest drivers for your GPU.

In the game settings, you may also be able to select whether Physx is handled by the CPU or GPU. So have a look there if the above doesn't work.

    @all
i figured out the prob was the driver was somehow corrupted, finally it revealed itself with enormous flickering while changing game resolutions, just updated it with newest driver ( also installed nvidia performance kit to overclock a bit ). Runs superfine (even better). for cooling.. repasting is hardly an avaliable option for me where i stay, but i picked another workaround, i remodified an old Laptop cooler with a moist_suppressed ventilation duct which draws cool air directly tapped from my roomy's freezer, i mean...i know the total thing looks horrible enough, but it drastically better than any cooling available here, god..it was good old-school engineering!!!!
