Xps M140

I am looking at the XPS M140. Initially I was interested in the DV1580se that was on sale at best buy, but the price went back up to $1399, and for the specs it is absolutely not worth that.

Then I came across the XPS M140 for sale in the Outlet for pretty cheap. I found the following:

1gb DDR2 Ram

Wireless Card (The site does not specify which one, should I assume 2200 b/g?)
14" WXGA Screen (does not specify TrueLife but I have heard that many people say they ordered from the outlet and it didn't say, but got TrueLife)
6-Cell Battery
Certified Refurbished
1 Year Warranty
$899 + tax + shipping

Is this a good deal? How can I find out about the Screen and Wireless card? When I tried plugging in the Support ID on the support site, it said it wasn't found, so I was not able to confirm. I am very close to pulling the trigger on this because on the Dell Website this comes out to about $1250 + tax + shipping.

I'm not sure if you can find out the information on the website. You should be able to contact Dell's Outlet support and they should be able to give you informaiton on it.

Sounds like a good deal.

I think... the $899 + tax + shipping is a good deal with the above specs that you mention

 

I think the price is quite steep. You may able to find the similar spec for less at the Outlet if you have enough patience. For the screen, I doubt you'll have turelife since I experienced it.

 

That deal isn't bad... If it doesn't specify "Truelife" it usually isn't. On most machines, it will say "Truelife" but if it just says WXGA screen then it most likely isn't "Truelife" unless they made a mistake. And yes... I own the XPS M140 and it's a b/g wireless card. I would say keep looking at the dell outlet a few times a day, over the corse of about a week. When you find one that looks like a killer deal then jump on it! The laptops in the dell outlet don't last. If you see a deal one minute the next minute another customer has already purchased it.

The reason it was so cheap is I went on ebay and purchased a 20% off dell outlet coupon for $5 then used it and it ended up saving me somewhere around $150-$200.

 

I've been keeping an eye on the outlet myself...I did notice a few marked tru-brite but I would imagine many more are and just aren't marked....it's only a 29.00 option and if you are going for the top processor, extra ram and a bigger HD, I can't see not popping for the extra 29. I've been looking for the tru-brite along with the 9 cell battery but there seems to be mostly 6 cell....I can get by with that I guess....I'm also startng to wonder if I need the tru-brite since ther are many more machines avaiable without it but with the drives and ram I want.....ugh, so many decisions...

 

There are a couple of coupons out thier that will bring it down like another $100

 

I haven't been able to find any coupons, but an even better unit popped up that I want to order. Just waiting for the funds to transfer over so I can pay for it.

A seperate question: SouthernGirl (or anyone else), do you know of a number I can call to contact Dell Outlet? So far all the numbers i've tried lead to home or XPS sales, and they all say there is no such thing as a Dell Outlet call center- makes it very difficult to confirm specs and discrepancies between listings.

In normal circumstances, Dell has been very fast with the shipping. I orders several units from them and mostly received mine within one to two days (for the free ground s&h). I'm in TX, and they were shipped from Austin or Dallas though.

For the call number, if you placed an order with them, they should have given it to you for further contact. You could use that number for verification purpose.

I had a matte screen and had to return it 'cause the screen was too dim and not vibrant at all. Definitely, for this model, I recommend getting truelife.

 

Seems I had more to choose from at the outlet with the 6 cell battery....and it is a bit lighter and more compact...if I can ge 4 honest hours of movie time on a plane, I will go with the 6 cell...can anyone tell me the max they got with just the DVD player going?
