I tried updating the BIOS to version 1.2.18 from 1.2.16 through the support utility. I have not had any problems in the past doing so.

This time, it seems like the BIOS did not flash correctly. When I boot, I get the SupportAssist screen, which says "No bootable devices found".

I went ahead and manually flashed the BIOS update from a USB drive, and it seems that was successful, but I still get the same SupportAssist screen.

There's a reddit thread ( https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/50bglj/xps_15_9550_no_bootable_devices_found_after_bios/) where someone mentioned re-adding Windows Boot Manager manually, but I have no idea how to do that.

    I have a FHD model with a 512GB SSD.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

1st reset the BIOS to it's default, then tinker with secure and legacy boot.

I went to the reddit post, then decided to try adding a new boot option, which I moved to the top. It gives you the option to browse for the boot file, which I did (
\EFI\BOOT\BOOTX64.EFI was what I found since it is 64bit).

Very annoying that this is happening on multiple BIOS releases.

So I tried resetting BIOS settings, and tried out each of the three possible boot modes but no dice.

Oddr, how do you get to the menu that lets you add boot options? I'm having trouble finding that menu after spamming F12 on boot,

I found it. On startup, hit F12, select BIOS setup. Under general then boot sequence, you can hit "add boot option".

Sorry I didn't give more details, but it sounds like you found it. That's odd, mine is F2, not F12.

Yes, this seems to have worked great. For me, both F2 and F12 work.

I'm still concerned that the Dell Update utility failed to both install the BIOS update, and messed up my boot order.

Those Dell utilities are generally nice ideas but poorly executed. I did a clean install partly to prevent them from cluttering up my machine. I find it much easier and more reliable to do updates on my own.

This exact same thing just happened to me. I likely would not have figured it out without this thread. Thanks all!

By the way, Dell's solution was to replace my motherboard, which didn't fix it. The new motherboard didn't have the right boot option either even though it has 1.2.14. I guess the boot options and whether or not they appear in the BIOS menu are not stored in the BIOS itself. I'm guessing it's stored on the EFI partition somewhere as that's the boot file that worked for me. Like above.

I kind of want the 1.2.18 as it has some USB-C updates and, as mentioned in another thread, my gtx 960m doesn't get passed through the dock so no applications can use it unless I run it on the laptop's screen making external monitors useless for applications you would normally want to use them for, photo and video editing, gaming etc.

Not sure if I want to try it now though.
