OK, so I bought an m1530 with 2GB DDR2. I didn't want to splash the extra £70 cash for 4GB at the time because you could buy 4GB outright from Crucial for less than £70 at the time. Anyway, I've had it about a month and I'm figuring I may as well jump to 4GB now. It has Vista Ultimate 32-bit, so I know about the 3.5GB limit, but I still want to squeeze everything I can out of this with 4GB.

CPU-Z says that the Dell-supplied RAM runs at 5-5-5-15. So what's the fastest compatible option for an upgrade? Even though I'm in the UK I tend to search Newegg for available options as they seem to carry everything around. I see some 4-4-4-12 PC2-5300 DDR2 from G-Skill (F2-5300CL4D-4GBSQ) and Kingston (KHX5300S2LLK2/4G), but just what is compatible with the m1530?

The Newegg reviews for the G-Skilll mention it working great with the m1210 and the m1730, but I hear nothing about the m1530. I'm guessing it will be fine though with the m1530 though, but I can't be certain.

The Kingston has no reviews on Newegg, so I can't tell, and the Kingston UK website doesn't directly recommend any 4GB kits for the XPS m1530, only the 2GB KTD-INSP6000B/2G kit.

So any advice or further options? I would much prefer to go the 4-4-4-12 route than the 5-5-5-15 one. TIA.

I think someone here in NBR did a test between regular 5-5-5-15 modules vs 4-4-4-12 modules.. and the difference between the two is minimal..

Let me see if I could dig up that page
