Hi, I don't really know what the difference is between the LED and the CCFL screens, so having said that if I choose to get the new business xps with the LED screen will that eliminate any possible problems with the whole samsung grainy screen issue? Or is there still a chance I'll get a bum screen even though its an LED? Also is there a difference between the home xps and the small business xps?

LED (light emiting diode) and CCFL (cold cathode fluorecent lamps) is the lamps that is used to light up an LCD (liquid crystal display). LED screen will give you slimmer display and usually better brightness, quick warm up time, lower low lights, usually gives you better lights distribution.

the grainy problem is the LCD panels problem. if the problem is occuring with the CCFL version, there is a good chance it will still be there on the LED version.

and yes it is worth it.. but is it available on the xps m1530? i thought its only xps m1330 thing.

They have just started releasing the XPS 1530 with the LED. Starting with the small buisness section in the US at the 1440 res.

If anyone finds out what brand is the new LED screen or how good it is, please share the info. I'm getting closer to my ordering time and I can't get into the Samsung vs LG 1440x900 TFT mess as I'm gonna take it overseas, so no return possible. Thanks in advance. Please help!

I had an XPS M1330 with LED screen. I sold the M1330 and ordered an M1530, because the resolution of 1280 x 800 was too low for me. My M1530 will have a 1680 x 1050 CCFL screen.

I don't have the M1530 yet (I'll get it next monday), so I can't give you a direct comparison. But I can tell you that the LED screen on the M1330 was really good - very thin and very bright, and very high quality. When I ordered by M1530 a few weeks ago there was no LED screen available yet, but I would certainly have chosen it if it were.

By the way, it seems that Dell has stopped making M1530's with the bad Samsung screens (or at least, in this part of the world). On another forum here in the Netherlands people are reporting that they are getting M1530's with 1680 x 1050 LG screens now.

Since the LED screen is a totally different kind of screen than the CCFL screen, I think you most likely won't get the same grainy screen problem if you order the LED screen.

Are you sure of this? Someone said earlier that even LED's may have the same problem...yeah even I don't want to get into the hassle of LG versus Samsung

We really just need some brave souls to try it out for us. The LED screens have only been available for a day or so, so I can't imagine anyone has had one built and shipped yet.

Problem is you can only buy the LED on business orders right now. So I don't think any of us have ordered it yet.

I just ordered my m1530 with 1440 res LED screen yesterday, and im hoping that the grainy screen problem doesn't spill over to those screens as well. I will update whenever I get my notebook in

    For what it's worth...

I spoke with a sales person at Dell Outlet. I asked him (regarding an m1330) if he's seen the screen with LED and without, and how they compare.

His response was, they are both excellent (again, this was for an m1330) and that while the LED screen is brighter, he didn't think it was worth it. His feeling was, if you aren't concerned with $$$, get the LED, otherwise, the CCFL is as good, but not quite as bright.

On the m1330, the difference in thickness is a tenth of an inch, and weight wise, you're looking at a quarter of a lb. heavier without the LED.

Battery life is also better with LED, but there's also a downside to going with the LED. On the m1330 (and, I'd assume, other models), the LED is matched with .3 camera, while the lower end screen comes with a 2MP camera, if that matters to anyone.

Wish I could see them side by side.

I purchased M1530 with the LED and it said it was coming with the 2mp camera, so it better!

I noticed that about the camera ... .3mp compared to 2mp.

It seems even the reps are divided on this one. I just ordered the M1530 yesterday and opted for the WSXGA+ screen. I pondered the LED but the rep I had told me the glare was worse and she did not recommend the LED. Of course I'm now second guessing myself.

From what I heard the LED was supposed to help with the glare?

erm i dont think the reps are being honest here, i think that because the demand is high, LED is either running short or they are awaiting stock and the rep is just trying to say in their own words, 'dont get the LED if you want quick ship' lol. If you do get the LED then their may be a delay.

The rep I spoke about was a rep for the refurbished department. The refurbished dept. has as many, or more m1330's with LED as without.

Browsing the list of refurbished m1330's, there was NO shortage of LED models, so I don't think the reps really care one way or the other.

I did get to go to Best Buy today and see an m1330 with the standard screen. It did look good, but not as good as the Mac Air (there wasn't an m1330 with LED to compare to).

I also don't really want to go down to a .3 VGA camera, which is what happens if you upgrade your screen to LED.

Off topic, but I saw a video some guy made with his m1330's camera, 2MP, and was blown away how sharp and clear the picture AND sound were! VERY impressive!!!

Decisions, decisions... guess I'll wait and see how the screen is on my machine, then decide. It's supposed to arrive tomorrow.

If your post above is directed to me, no, I have an m1330 on order.

I did SEE an m1530 today, at Best Buy. They look sweet!

I ordered the m1330 with the standard screen.

By the way, I have seen, as I mentioned above, the LED screens on the Mac Air, and they are SHARP!

I have no doubt that the LED will be brighter, sharper and use less energy. I just hate giving up the 2mp camera, and the extra $$$.

LED is amazing I'd recommend getting it if you can. It is so vivid and bright at full. I have one right in front of me (m1530)

What he said! :D I've had my LED for two days and am convinced this is the best lappy screen I've ever owned (I've had 5). White pages are almost blinding.
