My optical drive has started acting funny lately. It's the MATA DVD+-RW UJ-857G. When I put in a blank disk it starts to read it, making the usual noises but then it gets stuck and just keeps making the same whirring noise over and over and it never launches the disk. I cannot burn any data. When I insert a disk with data on it, it makes the disk reading noise once and then stops, doesn't try to launch it at all. When I select the drive from My Computer, it tells me to please insert a disk. I've been running Windows XP Pro for about a year on this laptop now and never had any problems. Before that my motherboard fried up and I had to get a new one installed by DELL so I wouldn't be too surprised if my optical drive is on the same path now...
