Neither in both cases. They haven't announced any new graphics card options for the 1730 yet; the 8800M GTX SLi is the highest-end card you can get. From what I've been seeing, the performance increase that a 9800 SLi would have would be marginal.

The memory type is motherboard/chipset dependent... unless they revise the 1730's motherboard it won't be able to do DDR3. I'll say it would be sweet, though... DDR3 and a mobile quadcore solution on a 1730 would be droolworthy. :)

I'll update this for the OP's benefit as well as anyone else who's going to be searching... apparently the M1730 is coming out with the 9800M GTX cards. It's debatable as to how much of an improvement over the 8800s these will be, but you can apparently config a 1730 with 9800s on Dell Asia, Europe, and the UK... the config hasn't shown up on the US site just yet, strangely enough. the 9800M GTX will be coming with 1GB per card, over the 8800's 512MB per card.

I'm calling them later (Dell Singapore) in the afternoon to just to see the upgrade cost of the 9800M GTX SLI combo. The options are also available here.

My only concern now is whether they're able to come up with Quads and a PM45 Centrino 2 chipset and motherboard. I admit, I never knew they would show up 9800M GT/GTX SLI. I thought it was the end for the M1730s - 8800M GTX SLI and X9000. That's it.

The motherboards for those M1730's may be new- didn't they also have options for DDR2-800Mhz RAM?

I wonder why it's still not available here.

The US EPP segment is now offering the XPS M1730 with:

Vista Home Premium or Ultimate 64-bit
    6GB DDR2 800 or 8GB DDR2 667

only offering 8700SLI on the 'BETTER' customize system option. This must be a glitch and I'm sure it can be changed by calling a sales rep.

Main thing I found interesting was the change to 64-bit and of course the DDR2 800 option. Of note, it wont let you select the 6GB or 8GB without a 64-bit OS. So for the other two customize options, it throws an error since those two dont offer a 64-bit OS. Noob Web Dev guys... lol

Hmm... would this mean that there's a new motherboard available for the M1730 now, as it can possibly take 800Mhz RAM? I don't want to get too excited, but if they did that... it might very well possibly mean they could be rolling out with quad-core support? A C2Q 1730 would definitely be making me drool. Well out of my budget just yet, but that would be a nice later upgrade to go with.

If I'm not mistaken (and please correct me if I am), but can't you drop 2 DDR2 800 SODIMMs into the system now? They would just run @ 667Mhz - right? If this is correct, then it very well may be a typo on the Web Dev part as their newer systems do support 800Mhz. Then again, a MB upgrade would be great... I'll cross my fingers (but not holding my breath).
