Hey all. Haven't posted in a while but having an issue with my laptop.

Whenever I have my laptop screen open, I cannot move the screen otherwise the notebook shuts off. So if I keep the monitor open in one position and don't touch it the notebook works fine. If i move the monitor (more often opening) the entire computer will shut off. Sometimes the computer will stay on but the monitor will turn off. What could be the issue? I am experienced and opened my laptop completely and reconnected hoping it was a loose wire. But still doesn't work...

hmm, i was going to suggest the wires, but you say you checked it. it could still be one of the wires actually only the problem is not the connection but the cable itself.
Could you try wiggling the two wires visible here while the laptop is on to see if you can reproduce the problem?

It means that the cable is busted, it has a bad contact somewhere. You mean the left wire on the picture right?
    Are you still under warranty?

Left wire actually is the DVI output (gpu->lcd).
So it may be the gpu module because it doesnt make sense that is the lcd.

The lcd is working if it will be kept in a position; moving it shutsdown the system because probably the gpu module moves, or the socket on it is busted.

If its the gpu the problem, then be aware that is the most expensive part of the beast. I would dismantle the best again, detach the gpu, clean everything, check the socket and screw everything firmly back.

thanks for the advice ill try that when i get some time. i do have warranty. (in fact i have 8 yrs of warranty with this machine lmao) originally bought an inspiron in 2005 i9300 w/ 4 yr warranty. when it was replaced with the m1730, somehow in dell's system i was allowed to purchase 4 yrs on top for another 400 so i took the deal. has come in really handy.

i sent in to the depot saying that when i move the monitor it shuts off, all they did was replace the screen. so for now just not gonna move it much. eventually gonna try to take it apart again.
