This randomly started a few months ago, and I haven't been able to fix it. Basically when I startup my computer, after about 5 minutes I'll get an error message 'unable to start bluetooth stack'. I've tried completely uninstalling, reinstalling drivers. No go.

I don't have UAC on, so it's not an administration error. If it helps anyone diagnose it, because of this error, I cannot send files to my computer without first telling the computer to 'wait' for a file. Previously it would say 'Bluetooth Device wants to connect. Allow?'. It no longer does this.

Any help would be appreciated on how to resolve this!

Have you tried uninstalling every bluetooth related device in the Device Manager? Uninstall any reference to any bluetooth device including cell phone/printers/audio device/etc.

If you have Windows Mobility Center installed, uninstall this as well.

Once done, run CCLeaner and clean the registry.

Reinstall the Bluetooth Driver and any Bluetooth devices... see if its fixed.

If not, it might be a Win7 issue. I have not had this problem under Vista 64 or Win7 but I was only running Win7 for a few days before I decided to dump it.

When installing the driver, use this one:

    ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/network/R216468.exe

Hi BatBoy, thanks for the reply.

I did indeed uninstall every reference. Basically, when I reinstall, everything but *one* Bluetooth device reinstalls. This one device will NOT install properly! It comes up as a "Bluetooth Peripheral Device". I cannot seem to get it to install when installing the drivers =-( Reckon that could be the issue?

My bluetooth does work, it just won't accept files without first setting it to 'wait' for them, which is slightly annoying.

So are you able to identify which 'Bluetooth Peripheral Device' it is? Is it a cell phone? If so, Motorola? If so, try the moto install driver package (if you need the link, let me know - I have it somewhere).

It's not a phone, I think it's one of the bluetooth profiles. Whenever I install the drivers, it installs like 7 or so different things. These are the bluetooth profiles, such as A2DP, File Push, etc. In Device Manager it's just "Bluetooth peripheral Device" So I'm sure where it's failing.

Not sure - argh - hate it when there is such an unknown.... Hopefully, someone else will see this and be able to lend a hand.
