Can't comment unless you tell me what resolution. Use the default if you want an even comparison. If this is default according to this link not that impressive. Many people are critical of site I linked to so take it for what it is worth.

I think your score is pretty in line with what I've heard from others that have run it on the stock machine, i.e. not OC'ing the graphics card, etc..

It's low, you should be close to 12k, or at least 11.5k...

Is that with or without SLI?
With SLI you should be getting a little higher - you may just need to tweak the system a little more to get the extra bit or performance out of it. With stock drivers you should be able to hit 11,500 to 12,200

Well I think that is a low score with dual 8800M GTX. Out of the box, everything stock I got a score of 13700, with Cpu overclocked to 3.4 and GPU overclocked as (600/900),I got a score of 14717.I have previously posted these screenshots.

okay...not getting a perfectly clear answer, my CPU is not the overclockable extreme processor, its the 2.4ghz one. If I should be tweaking something, what should it be???

The cards - OCing them will give you a nice boost.
Also,OCing the CPU to some 2.6 or 2.8 would drastically increase the overall score.

Eleron, is the T8300 in the Dell XPS 1730 overclockable?? And as for the GPUs, how do I know for sure whether or not I can overclock em or not?

Any CPU is OCable, if you know the PLL for it...
I have a guide in my link, but you won't be able to OC the CPU unless some 1730 user knows the PLL for it...

    Actually...now I've got a problem...

in CPU-Z i keep seeing my Core Speed drop from 2.4ghz down to 1.1ghz...the multiplier is going from 12-13X down to 6X...what is going on...my power is set to Always On...why is my CPU jumping all over the place?

On the contrary...Everest tells me that my CPU is running from 2.4ghz up to 2.5ghz...overclocking itself by 3%...

    someone help..

It is normal it it upclocks (2.5) on one core when single threaded application needs power. It downclocks when it is not being stressed. If you want to confirm just open CPU-Z and run prime95 in the background that should keep the clocks high. Or wPime as that is multithreaded. Clocks should stay high.

    are you sure?

ive tried every single PLL listed in SetFSB and nothing works. everything else ive read/heard has stated that its not possible to overclock the T8300 in the XPS. id like to try and OC my M1730 without cracking it open to find the PLL.

    help~!

What drivers are you using? If the Dell drivers, then I can accept that as normal. Your CPU will cause a hit.

For me, the max I've been able to get is 11602 using the NVIDIA 175.19 drivers. Mind you this is without any OCing of the GPU and disabling the worthless PhysX card.

Try that, disable your PhysX and see if you score higher. Most find disabling it actually boosts the 3DMark06 score.

I've tried several drivers, the Dell driver for the 8800m sucks. The Dell Rapid Release Performance driver (174.31) wont even install without tweaking the .inf file. It will accept the 8700m but not the 8800m. I detest Dell for not supporting the 8800m with a decent driver. Hell, if I was one of those customers who purchased the 8800m via the GPU Upgrade ($1k), I would be screaming at them for not offering a decent driver.

Also have tried the laptopvideo2go drivers. Some of the 175 and 177 releases. So far, nothing beats out my top 11602 3DMark06 score using the stock 175.19 NVIDIA driver (installed via HAVE DISK/FORCE INSTALL method). Laptopvideo2go's 177.41 driver actually decreased my 3DMark score by a couple of hundred. Weird considering so many users report success with this driver.

I guess in the end it's not that important to me to be running the most recent release... I mainly only play TF2 on the beast and with 175.19 I can set everything to High/Very High and frag @ 1920x1200 - I'm happy with it.

Your score is normal. I have 10700 at 1280x1024. It is because you are CPU limited at such a low res. Those who gets 11500+ has the extreme CPU, the overclockable one in the bios. 3D Mark 06 is heavily dependant on CPU speed, thereby their results. Even overclocking the GPU´s won´t give you a boost at 1280x1024.

Now try to run 3D Mark 06 at 1920x1200 instead and you will be surprised since you will have 10000+ 3D Mark 06 at that res. Why you might wonder? Easy at 1280x1024 your GPU´s doesn´t work hard and especially not SLI, more work is put on your CPU. All this if facts. 3D Mark 06 loves high clocked CPU´s and Quad Cores.

If you want to compare, compare the GPU score alone instead of the overall score which includes the CPU. Also drivers play a role in score, though not by much. I actually managed to get 10900 with one driver on my 2.4 GHz T7700.

It is because the PLL is not supported, and that the SetFSB creator have not gotten a chance to implement the XPS 1730 into their database. And might not ever happen. If someone gets an idea of how to OC the CPU, let me know. I`d like a 2.6 or why not, 3.0Ghz if the temps will be ok :D
    I haven`t tried 3dmark06 on mine yet,but I expect a 10500-11000 on it.

Well I don´t think any 8800m GTX SLI owner will drool over your 3D Mark score at least not me when our GPU´s are faster than your in games anyway ;) Even one single 8800m GTX of ours is faster than your´s. Your 64 SP´s vs Ours 96 SP´s

I think lot of people base too much on a 3D Mark score. Run 3D Mark 05 instead and compare or why not Vantage? Since 3D Mark 06 loves a fast CPU and thereby the better end results the faster CPU you have.

    Now now, behave!

You know just saying what you got and not showing it, is not going to convince anyone. Besides…it’s not nice for a little brother to pick on the big brother. ;)

Hi Nahiyan13, I have exacty your same configuration (2.8Ghz + 4GB RAM + SLI 8800GTX + 2 x 200 Gb RAID0 HDD + Vista SP1 32bit) and after running 3dmark06 + Feb08 hotfix with everything in the stock config, I am able to achieve only 11750 score, with 175.32 drivers, SLI enabled from nvidia control panel (but it seems that 3dmark06 does not detect it); when I run the test I activate high performances from vista and I shut down antivirus, internet, and any useless application. May you please tell me how you were able to achieve the 13200 score? Drivers, Vista config (did you format after receiving from Dell?) running processes....
I ask you and all other forumers some help on this matter as I find, on internet, "contraddictory" results, e.g. people having similar scores as mine and others having 13000+ scorers. Where am I wrong? It is strange as I have exactly the same HW as you and I do not understand why I should be lower than others..... :(
Please help me (I am a newbie as you can see)

    Ciao and thanks
