Help! After working perfectly for one session, my XPS M1530 with NVidia 8600m GT video card no longer successfully transmits audio or video to my HDTV via HDMI - I just get a blank screen.

I bought a KDS-50A2000 Sony SXRD 1080p TV used a few days ago. Both HDMI input ports work perfectly with my DVD player and can be connected/unconnected at will. The first time connecting my M1530 via the same HDMI port/cable I immediately had both a video and audio connection. I happily used the Nvidia Control Panel to try various resolutions and eventually set up Dualview with the TV at full native resolution (1920x1080) with amazing results.

However since I disconnected the laptop that night I have been unable to get the TV to show any audio or video from the laptop by HDMI cable (only S-Video which is pitiful in comparison). When I plug in the HDMI cable the laptop screen still flickers for a few seconds and returns with Nvidia Control Panel showing that it detects my Sony TV. I can change all of the same Sony display settings and if using DualView I can drag windows or the mouse off the laptop screen to where the TV display should be. However regardless of whether I use the clone or dualview setting at any resolution the TV stays black with no audio. In desperation I even tried making the TV the primary display but it stayed blank and I had to navigate blindly to drag the Control Panel onto the laptop "secondary" screen and undo.

My Nvidia drivers are up to date (7.15.11.7644) and I even updated my M1530 bios to the latest A12 version just in case but no luck. Any ideas why this connection no longer works? Does it have anything to do with HDCP protections (which I don't understand but sound troublesome)? Are there any tools I could use to try and diagnose the problem? Is there a particular connection order I should try.

Thanks in advance for your input - the initial success now seems like a cruel tease!

After talking to XPS support for a long time today I have scheduled an onsite motherboard replacement at their suggestion. My 3-yr warranty only covered depot support so I am paying $49 CDN for the visit.
Is there anything I should watch out for during the repair (other than verifying that the HDMI port works before the technician leaves)? Are there any other benefits to updating a two-year old motherboard?
