With XPS M1530 to be released in just a few days and rumored to be priced similar to XPS M1330 with similar configuration, what you would buy? Which one would you prefer and why?

I would still rather opt for the M1330. The 15.4 inch for me is just too big.

GPU on 15" should be little better than what it is, especially with XPS logo on it.

    15.4 inch is too big.
    13.3 inch is perfect.

Despite the XPS branding, they are targeted at two different market segments. Therefore, not many people wanting to buy a M1330 would change their minds by M1530.

Well at the start of the rumors, the 1530 was to weigh in at about 5lbs. Now info indicates it may be as much as 8 lbs! I can get the 17" W2W at that weight! So I've been interested in the 1530 mainly due to the slimmer and lighter than average for a 15.4" unit. Have to see what reality brings on the 17th.

    There's no way it'll be 8 pounds.

Anyway, 13 inches is just a little too small for my taste. 14-inch vs. 15-inch would be a tougher decision for me, but if it's just 13-inch vs. 15-inch, then I'm going with 15-inch.

Dell should have opted for DVI instead of S-video.

Since the M1330 has HDMI, I expect the M1530 to have HDMI too. In that case, DVI would be sort of redundant with HDMI.

Not when most projectors and more expensive LCD panels still use DVI.

VGA, S-Video, DVI (via HDMI to DVI Adapter) and HDMI.

You can also do Component/Composite (via HDMI to Component/Composite).

    What more do you need?

Dell has kept VGA mainly because of variety of legacy projectors! (That's what I was told).

I would have to see the laptops and pick them up to be able to choose.
If the weight isn't much different from the M1330, and the price was similar, I'd go for the M1530.

Is that the same source that listed the screen as a 13.3-inch WXGA TrueLife?
Some of the specs listed in that service manual are of questionable accuracy.

M1530 provides a portable 15 incher to compete against the mac book pro... HDMI out is nice as well... Look forward to buying a non bulky (non Inspiron) HDMI equipped.. battery life friendly portable that will give me no screen real estate problems....

I got the information from a printed manual that was with a Dell Rep at a mall kiosk. What is available at DCSE site has many inaccuracies and copy-paste information from M1330. The printed manual I saw did not have these discrepancies.

If the 1530 is going to hope to compete with the MacBook Pro "niche" it will have to do better than a 8600GS. Small form factor, large screen and power are what's going to sell it. It's going to have to have more power than a 1330 to fill that MacBook market.

Hopefully, it will be priced similar to a MBP but with the flexibility of the MBP it's going to be a tough sell imo.

M1330 all the way. The addition of the HDMI port on this unit allows it to function as a desktop replacement... that's ultra portable.

That is a unique selling point, that for some reason they've yet to try and sell it on. Haha.

    Silly Dell.

Hopefully it will be priced a good deal less than the MBP.

I can't believe they'd do that. There may be a temporary shortage of screens at the moment, but I don't believe they'd do away with the LED option permanently.

M1330 is the way to go if you care about battery life / portability. M1530 if its raw performance.

Be prepared for some build quality issues though. I ordered two systems over the last two weeks and both were delivered with the A01 motherboard, and one of them has a lot of issues (bad paint job, lid doesn't close properly, misaligned left hinge, crooke hinge cap, keyboard hump, southbridge whine, ding on the edge of the screen, tc)

I personally like 1330 than 1530. Both are sleek but I want something that portable so I can bring it to classes. But some build quality scared me to buy it right now. Does anyone think that this problem will be solved by next year?

I have a M1710 and I thought I would love the 1330 for it's size and portability. I did at first and the novelty quickly wore off.

After having the 1330 for some time now, I feel it is too small and somewhat flimsy. I think the 1530 is the perfect balance between too big (1710) and too small (1330). Even watching a movie on the 1330 kinda sucked.

I guess it really boils down to personal preference.....

    Well...
I had a Samsung Q35 (12'1 inches) and I loved it but I was power hangry to be able to play some games...

As far as I am concerned, DELL should have used a 14' instead of the 15' but nobody is perfect...

My Q35 was 2kgs... The M1530 is 3Kgs so not too much heavier for much better performances...

It is all about compromises.... ;-)

my old m1210 had 4usb's and i thought it was really cool at first, but i really only used no more than 2 at a time max. 1 for usb mouse and the other for flash drive.

what would you need 4 for?
