I just used a Dell windows7 disk which I got from my son's computer ( he installed windows 7 ultimate) and the COA from david's computer to install windows 7 onto my xps m1530. The instalation would not validate with MS even though I was using a dell disk and a dell COA. Today for another problem I had a Dell Tech in my house and mentioned my problem. He said he could fix it and would. He used a flash drive and loaded Public and or private keys which told the computer it was newer and then he validated the screen and motherboard and disk. After this windows activated with no further problems. Now the problem, If I update the hard drive which I will as soon as Frys has a large one on sale. I will be in the same boat. Is there anyway to save the changes he made to the system to a disk or flash drive so that I can install the new drive?

I am slightly lost.. Help would be appreciated

    thanks

That is not a legal installation. OEM license keys are not transferable between systems. The exception to that would be if you got an upgrade package when you purchased the second system.

You can clone your present HDD to the new one using Acronis. You have to get an external drive enclosure.
