Hey guys. Long story short, I had Windows XP on my M1530 working perfectly, with all the correct drivers I basically needed installed, but this was about a year ago. Just over this weekend, I unfortunately made a stupid decision, downloaded a bad torrent, and infected my entire XP partition with spyware. Long story short, I couldn't get rid of all the spyware on my computer, reformatted the partition, and reinstalled XP. I'm currently installing everything back on it, but the problem is that I cannot seem to get my computer's modem (or whatever it is that's responsible for getting the laptop to connect to the Internet using an ethernet cable) to work, as none of the drivers I am downloading seem to work. I tried the Broadcom ones; the diagnostics installed, but the driver itself could not find the modem. The 56K drivers didn't work either. I'm currently running 32-bit Windows XP Home Edition SP2.

Weird thing is, though, when I had Windows XP before the whole spyware thing happened, I didn't install the modem drivers until several months ago because I didn't need them until recently, as I used my wireless connection all the time. When I realized that I needed to use my wired connection for various reasons, I then downloaded (I believe) the 56K modem driver, and that solved the problem, but for some reason I can't seem to do so now. I had Service Pack 3 installed (at least I think I did) when I installed the modem driver several months ago, but I'm not sure if that had anything to do with the driver successfully installing. From what I can see, the modem for some reason isn't being detected. Can anyone help me out? Thanks!
