Hello sorry if this has been asked before but I've been looking and can't find any answers. Firstly my laptop specs
    xpsm1530
windows 7 ultimate x64 (retail not RC)
    t9300 cpu
    8600m gt gfx card
    320gb 7200rpm seagate momentus hdd
    4gb ram
all the other usual bits with this laptop.

now, my problem is the media remote wont work. i've tried various versions of quickset including the quickset for studio xps1645 as well as the 64 bit vista version for the xps m1530 and all the features work fine except for the remote. now i dont think its the remote itself as it worked fine in vista but has never worked for windows 7 even when i was using the RC.
the thing that bothered me though is that there is no infrared device showing in device manager and im 99% sure there was one in vista. is this the problem? has anyone else had this issue? i see people have had trouble with the remote but it was sorted after using one of the above quickset versions.

If anyone can help I'd be very grateful

    thanks in advance

Pull out your driver DVD and see if there's one listed for it there, even if it's for Vista. If that fails .. what we need then is the device ID so we can track down the make and manufacture for a driver.

yea i've already tried the vista 64 bit quickset installer from the dell website, dont even think the dell cd has a 64bit quickset on it. am gonna install vista again and see if the remote works and also try and get the device id. currently looking for the manual so can see if can find the ir reciver details that way.

thanks for your help so far

You can find the device ID by going into device manager, selecting the device(s) and choosing properties. On the properties dialog there is a "Details tab" - select Hardware IDs and right-click/copy the full string.

    It might resemble:
    ACPI\ITE8708
    or
    PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9488&SUBSYS_02FE1028&REV_00

Quickset won't have the driver it will be listed on its' own, usually as infrared sensor or remote sensor.

Sorry, can you confirm what media remote you are talking about? Is this the travel one that slots into the Express Card slot? If it is, I would check the battery as it is tricky to replace. Mine worked on my M1330 laptop with Win7 x64 without any special drivers but I now have the Quickset software for the XPS 1645 installed and it still works fine.
