    Hi All,

My webcam wont power on, even when I open the Dell webcam console.

On other occasions, it will repeatedly turn itself on and off, with the "budup" noise, like the same noise when you connect a usb device. It gets very irritating, and it can happen 50 times before it stops(like the other night when I was playing a game, and was doing nothing in relation to webcams). Its as if im opening and closing the lid, but the lcd isnt effected(perhaps its the lid connection for the webcam wire, if that exists??)

I opened up the M1530, and checked the connection to the motherboard, thanks to another thread here ... http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=309115

And the pic supplied here http://forum.notebookreview.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=25442&d=1223851321

That seems to be fine, and since reassembled, it wont turn on at all. That happened before I deassembled it, so its not a problem I caused, and could just start to repeatedly turn itself on and off again at any stage.

I tried reinstalling the driver, and reinstalling the webcam manager, to no effect.

Right now, in my device manager, the webcam isnt listed. And from experience, wont be listed until powered up(which could happen at anytime, as stated above).

My problem now is, im in Philippines, and its no use me contacting Dell in Ireland(where purchased). Also, I have gone past my warrenty.

Is there anything I can do ???

Im considering just disconnecting it, and buying an external one, cause they are cheap.

If I give my laptop to a repair guy here, its a major gamble, as many dont know what they are doing, and will damage it further(its the Philippines).

Any help and advice welcome, or if you need fruther details, just ask.

    Thanks
    Alan

I'm having exactly the same problem at the moment. I'm not keen to open up my M1530 as I'm still under an extended warranty but it does sound like a loose connect somewhere, either on the mobo or somewhere behind the screen.

I sometimes get a warning message about a USB device can run quicker etc.

I may have come across a solution that seems to work, for the moment at least. I got it from the Dell support forums, don't know why I didn't check there first.

Anyway, its possible its an issue to do with the internal USB hub and the solution is the following:

With the laptop on plug in a USB device, I used a memory stick. Now check that your webcam is working, make sure its enabled in the device manager. If its working OK, shutdown the M1530, remove the USB device then reboot the laptop and all should be OK.

I think you might be correct that is likely to be a USB problem, as I also got notices that the usb device can work faster.

I tried your solution and it didnt work for me.

Im updating my usb drivers now, hope this works.

Nope, nothing worked, and when I try to open the dell webcam centre, it says that no webcam is detected.

Interestingly, when i try to open the webcam console, it says that the webcam driver is not installed. Hmmm

ps, i already installed R165116.exe from dells support website
