    Hey everyone,

I want to use my Sony Bravia 40" HDTV LCD as my monitor for my XPS M1530. I tried using an HDMI cable and after connecting them both, the picture is not as sharp (grainy, resolution seems wrong even though I tried fiddling with it, etc.) as when I use a DVI cable to connect them. I'm not quite sure why though, am I doing something wrong? Thanks for the help!

What resolution are you using with the screen?

On my laptop I'm using 1440x900, on my TV I've been playing around and it's been like 1920x1080 all the way down to 1280x800.

Are you using the generic Windows display properties to set the resolution? If so try using Nvidia's software.

You HAVE to use Nvidia Control Panel to set your HDTV and get the proper resolution, and may need to set the size of the desktop to.

mmm if you have an 720P resolution HDTV you will NOT get a sharp display on 1920x1080.

You don't need to use nvidia's control panel, although it does have more options. Just check the TV's manual for what the optimal resolution is for connecting to a pc.

When I connect to my 32" TV through DVI, it is a very sharp picture sharp picture at 1366 x 768 but when I connect through HDMI it automatically sets it at 1920 x 1080, so I have to adjust it down.

Yup, I have tried those suggestions but no luck. In my TV manual, it says "Do not connect a PC to the TV's HDMI input. Use the PC IN (RGB IN) input instead when connecting a PC)." That kind of sucks if I can't use HDMI from my laptop, anyone with a Sony Bravia that can confirm this? I have the KDL-40S2010 model. Thanks!

I have a Full HD Bravia here and computer display from a M1530 is perfect at 1920x1080. I think that your TV is only HD ready and thus native resolution should be 1360 x 720. So I recommend you to set your output resolution to 1360 x 720 once connected through HDMI and also set you display area on your TV to "Full Pixel" if you have got this option (setting adjustment>screen menu). On connection to your TV for the first time, your display may not completely fill the full screen in some circumstances, you'll need to adjust the output size on the NVIDIA control panel. Hope that this helps.
