Hello everyone, unfortunately my laptop has been playing up this last couple of days. I’ll run you through the story.

I fired up Call of Duty 4 for some online gaming whilst at the parentals house, all well and good.
Then after a few (maybe even one) minutes gaming, PING, and the laptop shuts off.

Strange I thought, as this has never happened to me before. The first things that ran through my mind were the graphics card had overheated and caused the system to automatically shut down. Although this has never happened to me personally before, I have heard of other people having this problem, and since I overclock, I reasoned this could well be the case.

Anyways, turned the machine back on, fired up HWMonitor, began playing again also whilst checking temps. – Nothing strange. Then without warning the laptop shut off again (longer play time though).
This continued to happen to me about every other time I switched the laptop on and off.

Still thinking along the lines of the graphics card, I decided to update my drivers (at the time Dell’s 176.44). Doing a bit of research I stumbled across the latest 185.20 drivers from laptopvideo2go. I installed these without a hitch and planned to do a few tests while gaming later on.

Unfortunately, whilst simply browsing through music on iTunes, the laptop shut off in the same way again! Simply making a ping noise and shutting completely off (the same way that would happen if you held the power button down.). This made me decide that the graphics drivers were not the problem after all.

So, has anyone got any ideas as to what’s going on? Unless anyone can think of anything I think it will be a case of getting Dell on the phone... Can’t really be bothered getting a mobo replacement AGAIN though.

Anyway will look forward to everyone’s advice!
