I've read almost every thread I could find on "M1530 HDMI audio or sound" and still cannot find a solution to my issue.
First of all, it had worked in the past, my laptop almost always connected to my HDTV - I have the correct output selected, etc.
All of a sudden I have no sound, I re-installed the driver, cleaned registry, nothing.
Uninstalled Vista SP2, re-install the driver - and lord and behold the sound is there. Leptop went to sleep after a few hours of doing nothing. Woke the computer up - windows blip via HDMI great, login - no sound. Reboot - no sound. ???
    Has anyone experienced that before?
I am about to get the express sound card, and a set of speakers, but why no sound via HDMI...
Oh yeah, and Dell support was clueless - I was advised to do the system restore for which I do not have restore points

    A little update:
putting the laptop to sleep while HDMI connected and waking it up brought the sound back. I wonder for how long.
