hi, this is the second day of my using my new xps m1530... I have 200 GB HDD 7200 RPM...

I put it on the table and started to work... At first i heard clicks from HDD. Then i downloaded HDparm and done what there were said:

"Just install HDPARM and run the "unclick.exe".
You can put a shortcut into the windows "autostart" folder to run it directly on boot"

After that clicks form hdd gone...

But today i took it on sofa :D and when i picked UP it i heard like scrpas clicks FROM HDD. and in vista all started to slow.... then i didn't moving it and when i moved it (picked up) again - again this....

I downloaded HD Tune and done some tests.

CANT post here picture but the graph was like if its standing its all going straight but when i picked first it falls down and vista slows down .. and then i put it back on table but when i pick up it again and starting walking slowly its started to beep clicks and etc. and again the line was fall down 3 times (to the transfer rate minimum) ...

    2) This was when i was moving slowly it like walking and i heard clicks ... sounds from it and A BEEP like sound 2 times..

    1) thats when i picked up it only.

    HD Tune: ST9200423ASG Benchmark

    Transfer Rate Minimum : 0.3 MB/sec
    Transfer Rate Maximum : 78.7 MB/sec
    Transfer Rate Average : 59.9 MB/sec
    Access Time : 27.7 ms
    Burst Rate : 73.0 MB/sec
    CPU Usage : 3.7%

Im really think that my HDD is a crap and i need to replace it or it will be dead im right?

Uh, sounds like the drive is a free fall sensor drive and is just slowing down so it doesn't get damaged. The beeping is warning you to stop moving it the way it's being moved. Run a hard drive test with the drive manufacture's tools to see if the drive is entering a failure mode.

But its normal to hear Scratches all time when i just pick careful. And its beeps always when i just move it down or small stress is it danger for HDD? :/? I will try now the speed HDD test as u said.

And is all notebooks are so sensitive (HDD) :S? Its happening too many times :/

If you're being gentle it should not be doing that. If you want to cut to the chase you can run the Dell Diagnostic tool (should be accessible through the BIOS or something) and let it tell you if your hard drive is failing or if anything else is having an issue. Be sure to backup your data immediately, and BEFORE you run the test (after all, stress can cause a failing drive to fail, and a diagnostic is a series of stress tests). If it does fail, contact Dell and they should replace the drive for you.

Try it, but Dell's [not-awesome] warranty states they will only replace a hard drive if their diagnostic shows a failure. So even if the hard drive manufacturer's test says it's failing, Dell won't take it until their tools says it is. Sneaky, eh?

If you have a seagate drive and seatools reports no errors on a full media scan, then I would not be overly concerned.

Now im running full test under the bios.

So i don't need to be worried about the beeps when i phisycly stress it? right? it only to protect from damege HDD ? like u said free fall of sensor :? im right :D??

And now im on hp notebook i done the same thing with it (phisicly stress) nothing were beep or... But maybe its speed of HDD it not so fast like on xps? its 5400 :/

So in conclusion if i will not find any errors in all test i DON'T need to be worried? right and just don need to stress it so hard :D right? and what about the clicks when i move it on the left- down. is it okey ?
(if in test i will not find any errors) .

waiting for ur help :) thanks

How loud are the clicks? The M1530 has a known clicking drive issue, I don't have the link but I am sure if you search the forums you'll find tons of info on it.

As for the HP not making the sound, not all computers have it. It's a feature.

Not really loud :) maybe its all okey? cuz test is running now and all by th moment is good :) it will take a little more time. to end.

and now i think that i may harm it when stressed (phisicly) but they wasn't so strong just up down for sec. and it not always but in 3 of 6 it was beep.

BUT the clicks not really klicks it when i pick it up and pull it down on the left side or forrward and its heard like smth in HDD falling down crrr. and when i stop moving its gone.

I have the same 200gb drive and mine is failing (confirmed by dell diagnostics) it is getting replaced soon too.

I also ran a program called smart defender which also said my hdd was prone to fail any minute!

The headache is wiping the failing hard disk securely because anything dell takes away anything they replace.

Yesterday i done FUll system test it took about 2.3h fully scaned (dell diagnostics) And when it was scan HDD i picked up it and fall down and it beeps (i read about that that falling sensor). BUT in the end all test passed were no errors. and the same showing SeaTools.

In HD tune when i do quick scan (error scan) its scan fast but every 5 sec maybe or smth lie that it stuck for a sec and then again keep run is it normal? Like that ...............x......................x......................x...........

Should i be worried and send my pc to replace it? (but what they will replace if all tests show ok) :/ hmm. ???

smart defender where i can get it :? for seagate

And when i logon on desktop after restart after 5-10 sec. (all tray icons load fast) the HDD starting (think) and its going about 2-3 minutes like i moving 6gb files but im only on desktop and nothing do. and when i pull it forrward down it again sounds like crrr... and this finishes only after 3-4 mins. what it could be? Remember it all started when i picked it up first time when it was working that was first time when i herd crap and etc. slow downs.. and... this.
THere are a lot of process svchost.exe [localsystemnetworkreset] and they are about 100
THey are opening opening and opening process (windows files.. dirvers. desktop files) and on the 5 minut tehy closing and hdd starts work normal.

Omg i cant belive 2 days and this HDD is full S***:S

In rescue monitor it says highest activity time all this 4 minutes on 100 % 99%. Remember its a fresh install of vista...

So anybody can tell me do i need to replace it (to send pc) watch previous post.
