    Hi,

I bought my XPS in October 2007 and I just updated it from Vista to Windows 7. There is no sound from the speaker, but in the "sound -> playback", it is normal. There are two "speakers" and the volume bar to have reaction when I play music. I can hear sound through my earphones though. Any suggestions? Thank you.

I'm not sure if I can help, but I had the same issue with my new XPS 1645. For me, the problem was that after I removed headphones from the jack, the computer still believed that the headphones were attached. Both the Dell diagnostics software (accessible on bootup) and the IDT audio control panel reported that there were headphones attached. See if you are able to determine if this is true for you.

My problem eventually went away after a few days. I'm not sure what I did, but it MAY have been because I unplugged it and took out the battery for awhile. Before the PC fixed itself, Dell was going to send out a technician to replace my motherboard to deal with the problem.

Since we don't know which drivers your using just go into Sound management properties and make sure Speaker/Headphones is selected. Now make sure it set to Stereo another thing make sure that the speakers are not set on mute good luck. Use SXPS 1645 audio drivers ;) use them with no issues.
