Does anyone have experience with this processor, Intel Core 2 Duo T5250, 1.5GHZ, 667MHZ, 2MB cache? How would it perform for duties such as video editing, flash, photoshop, and gaming (cs:source) ?

this would be coupled with a 8400GS, 2GB RAM, 5400RPM HDD

My university is offering a M1330, T5250, 2GB RAM, 8400GS, 120GB HDD, LCD, for $1299, which includes 3 years completecare, accidental, lojack

I asked for an upgrade to a T7300 but they quoted me a price of $2,000+...

    Any help appreciated! Thanks.

this is actually my university's bookstore, i called them but the best they could do is 2,017 for the following

    T7300, 2GB, 8400GS, 120GB HDD, 3 year warranty

they said they can offer me $1299 for the base model (T5250, 2gb, 8400GS) because they get "bulk" discount.

Will my warranty expire if I upgrade the processor myself?

You can also choose to customize your own configuration depending upon your needs. Though not as economical as the packaged deals, you can the same system with a T7300 for 1700 to 1800 with the 3 year warranty.

Yea but the $1299 deal is looking hot, since I can just go to my uni and pick it up, rather than waiting for dell. 3 years accidental is also a plus ++ for a college environment.

My limit was 1500 after tax (california tax would add another $100 - $200)

Check with your school again. Dell also offers the 1499 upgraded deal as well to some schools. This might work considering its just under your budget before tax and such.

my school only has 2 bundles :( ,

$999 for the "lite" package, T5250, 1GB RAM, X3100 Graphics
    $1299 for the "premium" package T5250, 2GB RAM, 8400GS

thanks for all your help, I will find reviews of this processor, hopefully it'll fit my needs

APPARENTLY this deal kills the drake deal :) maybe i'll end up getting the 1299 bundle

Yes if you manually upgrade the CPU, you would be voiding the warrenty.
