I received my XPS M1330 yesterday but didn't have time to open it so for the past couple of hours I 've been setting it up. I have to say everything about it so far is "Lexus" in quality to me, the keyboard feels fantastic and the whole laptop seems extremely well put together, it also looks fantastic, just as nice as any MacBook Pro to me. It is also very quiet, my family is still sleeping so it is very quiet in the house and the lappy is virtually silent!

I was knocked sideways when I got my 1530. Compared to my old 1.6GHz Acer, the XPS is just sheer class in almost every area. Top notch keyboard, design, screen however I hate the touchpad.

Its good to hear the positives jump in. I have received several M1330s and only had one issue with a minor crack in a spare battery thusfar.

Most often, many here are because of the negatives or to read about systems and leave immediately after receipt if there is no problem.

    Tx Guys!

My second one is really nice as well. Keyboard feels really nice, completely different than the first. Also feels pretty solid except for a hollow feeling in the top front display bezel. Other than that, the thing performs. Very sleek.

Just received my 1330 yesterday and yes, it has the CM LED. I wouldn't call the build quality a Lexus simply because I think Dell could do better, but for the price I paid on this 2.2G system, I am satisfied.

I have been a long time ThinkPad user so I didn't choose the 1330 for ruggedness, I am tired of carrying my T60P 15.4". I started by getting the HP Tx1000z for its size (didn't need a tablet), but the 2.2 AMD simply couldn;t cut it running Vista, and when I saw the discounts on the Dell, I ordered one on 1/19 and had it in my hands 9 days later, not bad at all.

The build on my 1330 sample is fine for what it is, gaps are fairly even, my KB is straight, screen is OK, not as terrible as I expected after reading the posts here. While it is not the sharpest knife in the drawer, it is fine. I wanted the LED after using my daughter's MBP, suffice to say that there is simply no comparison, the CM LED is acceptable, nothing to write home about, though the colors are fairly correct IMHO. The only thing I noticed is that the screen bezel is slightly too large in that it covers perhaps some pixels at the top edge (below the cam).

The CPU doesn't seem to whine on mine and it's been on performance for 10+ hours, the slot loading drive didn't bother me much as I have been conditioned by the MBP.

I think I will either do a clean install or just roll back to XP to gain some performance, but all in all, the unit I have seems fine. I am using a Verizon Expresscard for now, probably spend the $150 to get the Mini-PCI broadband card.

I simply can't beleive that CM LED's are rubbish, may be some, but not all. The quality we see here, or the lack of, is simply a result of the contract with Dell - if Dell specs the equipment and accepted the sample, it is really not the manufacturer's fault. For all we know, CM may be building some high-end stuff for other manufacturers, just not the LED's for Dell ;)

BTW, heat is really not so much of an issue. I suppose everything is relative, the 1330 runs hotter than my T60P, but the T60P also has a 2.0 vs the 2.2 and TP has probably one of the best cooling design out there. The heat from my 1330 is actually slightly less than a 2-year old Sony (1.6 Centrino) in the house.

This is my first Dell system, I really wanted to buy an Apple notebook but Apple doesn't make a notebook that is good for me. The MacBook Pro is too big and the MacBook is underpowered and heavy for a 13" system. To me the MacBook Air is really a niche product. I've read many reviews and posts about Dell computers and decided to get the XPS M1330 after trying it at a Dell kiosk, it came down to between the M1330 and the Sony SZ650 but I like the way the M1330's keyboard feels over the Sony.
I am really very pleasantly surprised, I took a magnifying glass around the XPS M1330 (yeah I know you think it's crazy but I really wanted to see if there were any build problems) and there are no gaps, cracks or squeaks coming from it. When I pick it up it feels extremely solid, probably the most solid feeling notebook computer I've used. It looks beautiful, at home much better than it does at the Dell kiosk and the keyboard is as good as the Thinkpad T series, I know I've had two (T41 and T43p), The mouse buttons feel just like the buttons in a Lexus, smooth and silent. It does have the CMO display but it is beautifully bright and I don't see anything particularly grainy about it, it is pixel perfect and has no light bleeding. It is also silent, I've been using it the good part of the day and the fan has yet to come on!
OK you want a down side? The display brightness increments are too far apart, I wish there was another setting between the brightest setting and the one down. If that's the only thing I can find wrong with it than to me it's a success!

I haven't experienced that and Im sorry. Im going to bet you have another replacement on the way. I also think you should call and express your dissatisfaction, politely suggesting a bit of money back or some comps.

Still very happy, I get up early to get things done while it's still quiet in the house. I'm typing on the XPS M1330 right now and I can't believe how silent the fan is! The keyboard is terrific, it has such a nice feel to it and it's so quiet, the last Thinkpad I had the keyboard was quite noisy. Having had Apple Powerbooks and Thinkpads in the past this is my favorite among them. I really didn't think I would be saying that.

So far mine is doing well. Minor additional issues - one loose screw inside the base, fortunately I was able to get to it before it caused issues. Then there is this flexing of the screen bezel, have some on top to the right of the web cam, and the bootom piece (with Dell logo) is bowing out a bit, just hope that won't trap too much dirt over time.

While it doesn't look it at first, the KB is actually quite nice, not as nice as the ThinkPad's IMHO, but much better than the MBP, TOS & Sony's.

Other than a couple Vista issues, the unit is moving along nicely...

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the bending of the LED screen normal?

I had that problem too. The bottom part of the bezel wasn't snapped in, so it looked like it was flexing out towards me. I just snapped it in and all is fine now!

The snaps are secured, but there's still some gap along the areas without snaps where I have some trouble, probably should have some very thin double-sided tape there. One thing I notice is that the silver paint quality is lacking but the chasis is very sturdy, no flex when I grab it & go.

Just need to find a WWAN card cheaper than the $150 list, don't want to spend too much on that as I already have a VZW express card..
