I have a M1330 notebook with t8100 processor 3GB RAM and NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS GPU.

The notebook was shipped with Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit, recently I have installed Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit edition on notebook. I have removed Vista and installed 7 on same partition.

The problem is system is acting weird, after 15 - 20 min of switching it on the fan makes noise and rotates fast and after some time the notebbok automatically shuts down. I checked the device manager and there I saw that it is not listing my GPU.

Are there any drivers to be installed. I have already upgraded my BIOS to A15 which is the latest available on Dell website.

    Please help...

Sounds like your computer is overheating, is it really hot to touch? Google "Hardware monitor" download and install it and let us know what the various temps are during operation. We should be able to figure it out from those!

That is definitely overheating there. I have an 8400 on my XPS M1330 too (with Windows 7 Pro), and it's at 65 C right now. (Everything ranges from 40-60s. Your's is in the 90's! o_O

You should download the Nvidia drivers, because it looks like it doesn't detect it.

Many m1330 owners have similar problems.

You should check out the threads on the vertical lines issue and the copper mod.

The Vista ones from Dell should work fine =P
And to people thinking that it's due to the 8400 problem, if you look at the temps, it doesn't even show that it's the 8400 that has those high temps.
My guess is that since the laptop actually has the 8400 on there, it's overheating because it doesn't actually detect it as an 8400 maybe? See what happens after you get the driver installed.

Make sure you have the latest BIOS installed aswell as Dell would have released a version to help reduce GPU temps. Based on those pics you do not have the proper nVidia chipset drivers installed. Either get them from Dell or head to the nVidia site for more up to date drivers. If your laptop is out of warranty, you may also want to perform the copper mod to help reduce temps.

laptopvideo2go.com has the latest nvidia drivers. I would suggest getting a win7 driver from there rather than from dell's website as dell doesn't have anywhere near the latest drivers. I had the same issue and ended up doing the copper mod described on this forum. It dropped gpu temperature by 10C or so, but raised CPU temps by 2-3C. I then undervolted the CPU for a 12C drop on that front based on the guide on this forum. Been operating with the copper mod over a year, and undervolted a month or so. Currently no ill effects so far from either change.

Ya, I figured there was an issue there, 202 is much too hot for a GPU.
