I've been noticing the past few days that when I try to click down on track pad, it barely clicks any more, as if the sensor under the trackpad is losing it's ability to be pressed down or something. Anyone else ever come across something similar?

I realize I can still tap on the trackpad without physically clicking it down but nevertheless, it's still worrying to me that the trackpad click button is starting to possibly wear and it's only been a year with this laptop?

Can honestly say I will never buy a Dell again. Nothing but issues with this laptop - quality control was horrendous.

I've heard of this happening if the battery swells.

The track pad doesn't seem to be raised like others have reported. Is there a good way to determine if the battery is in fact swollen? If I open up my laptop, is it easy to see the swelling?

Also, if I'm replacing the battery, I might as well order the latest 9560 battery correct? As I believe it lasts longer and fits into the 9550 models?

Yes you can see it swelling but normally when the laptop has not been used and everything is at room temp the trackpad should be normal. If it like it 24/7 you may have crap under it, I guess you need to take it apart to check the battery and if you get as far as removing the battery and it still does it I would take the trackpad out and give it a good blast with a tin of compressed air.

And the 97wh will work in the 9550.

Yes, I can now confirm its from battery swelling since I had my laptop shut off for the past few hours, just turned it on and trackpad is now working properly again. I've changed my settings in the BIOS so that it only charges the battery to 90% and only begins charging once it falls below 50%. Hopefully this will reduce any swelling or heating up of the battery.

So even with the above change, still having the same issue once I've been using the laptop for 30-40 minutes. Interestingly, during this time I'm not using the battery and it's not being charged, so it would seam that the laptop's general heat level is causing some sort of swelling going on with the batter? Is that even possible? Does it indicate some other issue or problem? I'd be happy to replace the battery if that would resolve this issue but worried I'll end up with the same result.

I checked CPU temps and right now they are all sitting at around 33-35 degrees Celsius. Any ideas/suggestions?

    Thanks

The battery still swells as it is warmed up in use.

So will this be an issue with a new battery as well or is my current battery faulty? Thx

Yes, I had this same problem on my 9550. Just recently - as in the last month - when the laptop got warmed up, the battery would swell and push up on the track pad, so you couldn't click anymore.
I got a 9560 battery on ebay and replaced it. The battery was about $130. Don't know if you can get one from Dell or what the price would be. It's very simple to replace the battery.
The 9550 battery has about six cells. The middle two were swelling up when it warmed up. Even once the battery was out and cool, some swelling was still present. So it looks like some gas was generated in the middle cells that was expanding when heated.
