I am planning on installing windows 7 on my xps 1730 this week. Is there anything I should watch out for during install or afterwards?

Make sure you have information about appropriate drivers for Windows 7 for your computer (Windows Vista drivers will probably work fine, but don't quote me on that).

And also make sure you don't play MP3 files until you install a patch that solves the MP3 files corruption issue.

    I've installed both 32bit & 64bit versions.

The 32bit went very smoothly and i had no drivers to install at all, other than the PhysX.

The 64bit version also went smoothly, however I needed to install a few more drives, Video, PhysX & Ricoh controller.

Both ran very well, infact the only issue I had was running the Experiance score on the 32bit version would cause a BSOD.

I could find no problems, all my software ran without issues.

    Goodluck :)

I have Windows 7 x64 on mine right now as well. Shiandy is right, here are a few extra drivers for small stuff to install, but non are too big of a deal.

I have had one problem with the ntvlddm (sp, don't have the error right in front of me), blue screens going on but those are related to the video card and most likley the 185.20 laptopvideo2go drivers I installed. The stock Windows 7 driver for it was working fine though.

Windows 7 should automatically detect your wireless card and load drivers for it. Then just do Windows update and it takes care of about everything else.

Windows 7 even automatically installs Dell Webcam Central for you though its not a Dell edition of Win7 or anythig. Thought that was kinda cool.

Thanks. I think I will skip the 185.20 drivers, that is what screwed up my vista install.

Of course, now that i have ordered 2 * 7200 rpm hard drives, I managed to get Vista fixed. I think I will go through with it anyway, and just pull the old hard drive for a backup.

Where did any of you find the drivers for Windows 7 (64) for the web cam? I have used every Dell driver made, and even every Creative driver. I tried running them under compatibility mode, and as administrator. I have had no luck with the web cam, woeking (it did work with vista (64). The vista frivers install, but still no working cam.

I have even spoke to Dell support and they told me that at this point they do not know if Windows 7 supports the web cam in the XPS 1730. They were very helpful, gave me numerous links to different drivers to download, even Creative labs links - Still no luck

A link would be great to the drivers you used, and any special instructions that you had to do to get your web cam working.

    Thanks

My webcam works fine with W7 64. I am using the Dell drivers off the website.
