First of all, I'm thrilled ot have found this site. I have posted messages on the Dell forum previously and messages often sit for weeks before getting answred (and some NEVER do). Anyway, I am excited to be here...

Problem: I just recently purchased an XPS1710 from the Dell outlet and I am having battery issues. I understand the concept of battery life and what I can do to extend it. That is not the issue.

The issue I am having is related to battery life and the power meter. As I use my laptop, the battery drains predictably from 100% to about 60%. Then all of a sudden, it will drop to about 7% and tell me I only have a few minutes of battery life left. In many cases, this isn’t enough time for me to run downstairs to grab the AC adaptor and plug the system in before it hibernates.

Yes, I have bumped up the notification alarm to alert me at 20% but the system never sees 20%. It falls from 60% to 7% and I am immediately at critical power levels.

Does this sound like I have a bad battery or is something else at play here? Does Dell include old dying batteries with their outlet laptops? I'm really stumped and I greatly appreciate any input you may have. Thanks.

Did you call up Dell and ask about this? I dont know if there is any warranty on the battery... Of course they dont give any warranty for the wearing out, but it should work even on a refurbished laptop?

    Hey there,

Your battery is covered, just as though your 1710 was a new purchase ~ even if you purchased from the Outlet.

Contact Dell, and they will most likely send you a replacement battery, and in return you will have to return the defective one. (The return label will be in the box) ;) And, usually they will overnight the batteries to you! :D

Most batteries have a standard one year warranty.

See this section on Dell's outlet regarding warranties for the XPS line: ;)
    http://www.dell.com/content/topics/...ervices_warranty?c=us&cs=22&l=en&s=dfh&~ck=mn

    Hope that helps.

    Cin ;) :)

Sounds like your battery has some bad cells in it. Request an RMA asap.
