    Hey everyone.

I am thinking about purchasing an XPS 17. I have a quick question about an external display for it. I am looking into purchasing the Samsung S27A350H 27 inch LED monitor. http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-S27A3...HNWK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1326072849&sr=8-2

I was wondering if the HDMI 1.4 port on the XPS 17" would be okay to connect to the Samsung's HDMI port. This monitor does not have a DVI port and the dell doesn't have one unless I buy a display port - DVI adapter and vise versa for the monitor. I heard that HDMI 1.4 only supports enough bandwidth for 720p... and if this is true, does that mean I can't run the samsung monitor at 1920x1080?

Please help, as I would like to have a nice larger display to accompany my laptop.

    Thanks :)

In my own case I run an Dell 24" LCD external via HDMI and it works flawlessly at 1920x1080 HOWEVER... you may or may not run into an issue playing BluRay movies. I was not able to play BluRay movies on my 24" LCD via HDMI due to HDCP issues. After trial and error with several different adapters and cables I found a Mini Display Port to DVI-D cable allowed me to play BluRay movies in full HD on the 24" LCD. What annoyed me was the fact that my HP Laptop could play the movies via HDMI with no issues. Just something to consider and research before buying.

I have the XPS 15 L502x connected to a Dell ST2420L display via HDMI and it runs at 1920x1080 with no issues. I also do not have problems playing Blu-Ray as noted above, but I'm not sure where the issue lies there.

Thanks guys for your help. It seems like using the HDMI cable will work out just fine :)
