    Hi!
I'm wondring if there is a way to shut down the Screen monitor on (Dell xps studeio 1640) while it's working\downloading?
Usually there is a button on the keyboard for this kind of task, but I havent been able to find any (Fn+Button) combination on the keyboard for this particular task..

Any ides how to solve this problem?

PS. I know that putting the laptop screen all the way down is a way 2 solve this, but im looking for other or -the Button "shutdown" alternative.

    Regards

There is a way to do this...give me a minute and I will find out because I have this functionality.

    Found it!

And then just open WMC and hit that button. :D I do it when I'm listening to music, but don't want to waste battery life powering the display.

i have a workaround for this, no any additional software required. press the display button (right to F12) 4 times (select projector only), and that's it. when u want ur screen back just press the same button 1 time.

    Yeah, it works on 7 64-bit. :)

    @scorpeeon

    That isn't a bad solution, either. :D

it seemed to be a cool workaround but after like 20 second the screen activates again and a message that reads "projector not found" pops up and illumination is on again...

Didn't work for me at all, all I got was a message saying that there was no external display attatched, do you need a second monitor or something?

There's a few utilities available to do this. First one I found on Google is Wizmo.

At the price of sounding arrogant, I'll say the link I posted above is a pretty straight-forward solution and is "kind of" built into Windows already.

Actually this (the software) was exactly what I were looking for - But unfortunately I Use [XP Pro 32bit ]and [WINDOWS 7 64bit] as OS..and given the fact that I only use XP- and that the software is made for Vista - made the whole thing more immposible.
I Searched for an XP version but couldn't find any.

NOTE. I also used the button right next to (F12) and all I got was a Black screen for 3 seconds. :(

    Any other solution?

    regards

Can't you create a power profile that shuts the screen off after a minute?

Habitually you can set the lid close action to do nothing. Then when you close the lid the screen is automatically turned off.

Yepp I did that already and have thought about that as well- but I were looking for other alternatives such as the "action button". . but since there doesn't seem to be any other solutions i guess I can live with a 10 minutes automatic shuts-down Profile.

Thank you all for your help\ideas :) :)

Are there ways for us to customise the Fn key action? On other dells laptops you used to be able to customise the functions it performed, that way we could add an extra function to turn off the screen.
