So - this is a problem I have with the glossy Unibody Crapbooks as well, but since I use/take the XPS more often than a Mac I just have this thing driving me doolally and that is the screen. In certain light it's just freakin' invisible, so I have to constantly move around to find an angle that I can actually see the screen at.

Is there some sort of matte-ising coating I can stick onto the screen? (Ideally something which comes in a 17-inch size so I can cut it down to size for the XPS and the 13/15" Crapbooks)

I suppose it's worth a shot. Although those bubbles are not encouraging. Thanks.

depending on what sort of stick it uses (glue etc.) if you put a thin layer of soapy water on it then you can get them down with no bubles at all and it dries within a few days
