    Hi everyone,

I'm planning on buying a dell xps 1530 and I'm wondering how good it's wifi is?
I'm thinking on going with the intel wireless N next generation on (I'm from belgium, don't know if it's available in other countries :) )

I'm using an acer 1692 for the moment.

    greetz ;)

I have the Intel N Wifi, and it works really well. It picks up signal very well and does not seem to drop it very often.

Intel N is great, hasnt dropped ever. Plus more compatibility with future programs, etc. Its really the way to go.

Is the N version a big difference with the a/b/g versions?

N has a huge speed increase over the old versions. I am not sure off the top of my head what the speeds are, but I am sure there is a good Wikipedia entry on it.

I only have a Linksys G router, but decided to go with the Intel N card for future capabilities - the card works great as stated above and it seems faster than my previous B/G Intel card. Worth the extra even if you are only using G, IMHO.

well most networks are still g. g allows 54mb/s, faster than most broadbands, so N isn't that great.

I got a wireless N router at home, so speeds are fast. They are widely available. Just probably not at school or other large organizations.

just saying that chances are your speed will be bottlenecked by your broadband connections, not the wireless card.

One of the main features of a laptop is mobility. I like being unrestricted by broadband cables hooked up to my laptop. N also has better ranges then a/b/g.

But if you are on a network, it will allow for faster file transfers.

Yeah, but why not have the best of both the wireless world and the broadband world when you can?

Reminds me of a lan party I went to where my friend had this old server router that didn't have the best transfer speeds (it is slower than wireless N thats for sure even though it is broadband), but it allowed up to 32 computers to be connected to it.... old... but sweet!
