I’ve had my XPS 1530 for a little over 3 years. I accidentally cracked the original screen on my xps and got a refurbished replacement installed under warranty. While the dell technician was swoping the screen out he told me the refurbished parts were not nearly as good as the originals.
I turned on my computer the other day and the screen was completely black. It sounds like the computer is running fine, however the screen stopped working. Hence, I believe the screen has gone bad and need to replace it. Based on the previous information what do you think? Do I need to replace the screen? I am planning on replacing the screen myself (because I am afraid of how much dell will charge me) (the computers warranty has expired). If this happened to you what would you do? Replace the screen?

Plug another external monitor to your VGA output or something similar to see if you have a display on the external monitor. If you do, congratulations, you need a new LCD...
