I'm looking to upgrade my XPS 1530 to 4GB of ram and run Vista 64. So I was looking at globalcomputer.com and newegg.com and I found these:

    OCZ 4096MB PC5400 DDR2 667MHZ SODIMM Memory
    Corsair 4096MB PC5400 DDR2 667MHz SODIMM Memory
    or
OCZ 4096MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz SODIMM Memory (I know my notebook will still only run at 667, but would this still be better performing then PC5400?)

    any thoughts or suggestions?

    Thanks

Don't waste your money on faster memory if it's not going to be utilized. There won't be any benefit.

    get the cheapest one....

and dont even bother upgrading to 4GB if you now have 2GB or more.... its pointless..... only few places u see improvement is virtual machine, rendering...

how is it pointless, the more ram and the faster it is the better

or something is crippling the performance

let me guess the PM965 motherboard or vista

    Well, it looks like I'm leaning towards the OCZ 4096MB PC5400 DDR2 667MHZ SODIMM Memory (2 x 2048MB) for $44.99 at globalcomputer.com

BS, I upgraded to 4gb with OCZ 800Mhz (Yeah yeah, it was cheap, and I didn't check to see if it would run it at 800...) It downclocked to 667, and it works fine...

Getting as much RAM as you can (affordably) is the way to go.
I believe he meant what you're saying: it didn't run at the rated speed.

    It's the easiest thing.

Unplug laptop and remove the battery first!

Open up appropriate cover on bottom of notebook. Pop out existing memory. Insert new memory at a slight angle and press down. Close/screw on cover. Put battery back and plug in. Start up notebook. Enjoy the speed!

With the latest BIOS (A12) the motherboard can now recognize up to 8gb RAM. Why not just buy the 4gb RAM module if you're going to use Vx64.
