I just purchased a refurbished XPS 1530. Great machine but it was pink so today I spent the entire day swapping the lcd assembly to the black version.

All went well except for the soft keys - they no longer respond to my touch. When the laptop boots the soft keys light up in order (Left to Right, and then Right to Left) but they will not light up when I touch them. I have checked the cable that connects the soft-keys to the main board and it looks fine. I've reseated the cable but that doesn't work either. I know there are a lot of serious XPS experts out there; if anyone has experienced a similar issue I could sure use your help.

    Thanks in advance.

take the battery out, unscrew the three mx2 screw, pop off the sides, pop off the touch sensitive control panel, clean the two little pressure pounts with acetone or r.a and trick is done, also make sure the connectors are all well connected.

I had a similar issue with an older XPS M1530. What solved the problem was a bios update.

    Hope that helps!

F!nn can you help me find the pressure points. The underside of the touch point is covered in tape except for one metallic circle - is this what I should clean - or should I pull the tape off?
