    Hi,

i7-2720QM processor 2.20 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.30 GHz --£0
i7-2820QM processor 2.30 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.40 GHz -- Add £190

I am trying to decide if the jump between 2720QM to 2820QM is worth the £190. More importantly will there be a speed increase.

Laptop use is for application development and running virtual machines

    cheers

Only real difference you will notice is the money missing from your pocket. There is not enough speed difference between the 2 that you would even notice outside of benchmark numbers.

Now if you are a benchmark .... thats a different story.

*obligatory 'save your money for the 1080p screen' post*
    ..

But yeah, the only real differences between the two are 100MHz difference in stock and turbo clocks, and 2MB of extra cache. While some applications may benefit from the cache increase, most won't.
Keep in mind, the i7-2720QM is still a lot faster than the i7-940XM of the previous generation. In fact, the difference between the 940XM to the 2720QM is a lot bigger than the difference between the 2720QM to the 2820QM.
