Wondering how hard it would be to remove all the bloatware and trial programs off the Dell issued XPS? I can buy a clean version from Microsoft but I hear that Dell's warranty is better than Microsoft's. Unless that part is untrue? Thanks.

You want to do a clean install of Windows, for two reasons:

    1) Uninstalling bloatware will still leave you with a computer that is slower than one that has just a clean install of Windows (and never had bloatware to begin with).

    2) Dell puts recovery partitions on the primary drive, in case your system needs to be restored to factory condition. Those recovery partitions eat up quite a bit of space (30GB+). The easiest way to get rid of them is to wipe your entire drive, and start fresh with a clean Windows install.

How is Microsoft's warranty compared to Dell's? I ask because Microsoft's version has a clean version of Windows.

well, in Canada, both MS and Dell offer standard one-year warranties.

you need to pay for 2-years or more, plus on-site work, etc.

Consider them identical. If there is a problem, they will send a local sub-contracted repair technician in your area to do the repairs. Most likely, the same technician, regardless of who you buy from.

It's going to be identical. Warranty will be serviced through Dell.

Microsoft is just a sales retailer. Just like Amazon or Best Buy. If you bought a Dell laptop through Amazon or Best Buy, you'd still go to Dell for warranty service and repairs.

For the manufacturer warranty yes but what about the purchased extended warranty?

Probably same thing. Microsoft is just reselling Dell's extended warranty for a commission.

Microsoft doesn't do that "extended warranty" scam that best buy does. But if you are still uncomfortable, get a squarespace warranty. They are reputable.

I purchased my XPS 15 from the Microsoft Store in-person, and according to the rep the Microsoft Complete Extended Warranty is a Microsoft product, not a Dell product, and works like this:
    Year 1
    Defect: Dell Support
    Accidental Damage: Microsoft

    Year 2
    Defect or Accidental Damage: Microsoft

If I encountered either case I was advised to bring the computer in to the Microsoft Store and they will troubleshoot and setup the repair process, either sending it to Dell in year 1 or finding their own solution. While they don't specify their repair processes, I've heard they generally offer to swap units if one is available or offer full credit to new model. I've also read that Microsoft is much easier to deal with than Dell, especially if you're not technically inclined, but that is mostly opinion. Also, don't forget to check if your credit card will add years to the extended warranty, as most will automatically add 1 yr.
