I have been trying to install Ubuntu 10.10 on my XPS 15 via a startup USB stick, but have not succeeded so far. It shows up the (initial) purple Ubuntu screen, then it fails to proceed and halts.

Has anybody successfully installed Ubuntu? Can you kindly advise on the steps that one needs to follow?

I have the XPS 14 with a dual boot Windows 7/Ubuntu. I ran the live disk and had to update the nvidia drivers when I was using the live disk feature. It worked like a champ so I went ahead and loaded Ubuntu. The first time I logged in I did not have the GUI interface. I logged in and did the following command:

    sudo apt-get install nvidia-current

Rebooted and the GUI was back for me.
