I have bought an XPS 15, just 2 weeks back for my parents...

The battery is working fine for normal usage scenarios.... But when the laptop is in sleep mode, it seems to consume a lot of power - even when the battery is fully charged, the laptop goes out of power within 1.5 - 2 days if it remains in sleep for that long...

I have an old Inspiron 15 whose battery lasts for way longer than that when it is in sleep mode.....

Is anyone else also observing the same behaviour ?

Not tried mine personally, but have you considered hibernate instead? That turns the laptop off completely and still boots back up quicker than a full reboot cycle...

Yes hibernate is an option that I can ask my parents to make use of for now...

In Linux, hibernate doesnt work so smoothly all the time, but sleep would be convenient.... My dad would be using Linux a bit as well....

Still it is strange to see the power consumption to be so high when at sleep....

Hi, did you update your video card driver recently? This happens to me after I updated mine to the latest (although mine is 425M GT). The driver seems crashed due to the display driver is not response. Then when the laptop goes to sleep, the display can't be turned off and that drained the battery. After I uninstall it and returned to the previous video driver, it went normal again. Not sure what is wrong with the latest video driver.

Does it happen in Windows or Linux for you ? Since you mention 425M GT I believe you're talking about the nvidia card....

I have not installed the nvidia driver under Linux since it doesnt make sense as optimus wont work under Linux and there is no way to force the nvidia card to do the rendering/output....

Under win7 I think I'm using the nvidia driver which I downloaded from the DELL website - my XPS15 is at home, I can check which version it is in the evening....

But this problem exists both under Windows and Linux, so I feel something else is wrong here....

I don't have a problem with mine on sleep for a long period of time.
Longest I ever gone with it was almost a week at half charge. Didn't mean to, was just busy with something else.
