    Dear fellow Dell users,

I have recently bought a Dell XPS 1330 and can't be more happy. It is one great laptop. My only problem is that I connect my laptop via HDMI cable to my HDTV and the picture is great, the problem is that I can't seem to get the sound to come out from my TV speakers. It only comes out from my laptop speakers. Is there a setting that I need to change so I can output the sound to my TV speakers?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Danny

Yes. In your audio settings you have to stipulate that the audio should be fed through HDMI. Audio does not automagically switch I'm sad to report... unlike video.

you have to tell the audio to go through the hdmi. Change audio settings from the control panel.

If you have Vista installed, you will need to right click on the speaker icon, select playback devices, and set the HDMI output as default. All sounds will then come from the tv. Once you disconnect the laptop from the tv, you have to go back and set the laptop speakers as default.

I had XP installed briefly, and I noticed that sound was playing back from both the TV and the laptop at the sametime automatically. I wasn't sure how to set it for hdmi output only.

You may need to set sound output to HDMI in Control Panel -> Sound Devices

If you do not see that, it may be because XP does not support HDMI output with the drivers available for your laptop.

Of course in the event that is the worst case, you can get Audio Out Component Cables for relatively cheap.

I have posted on a few threads regarding this same issue. We need a definite answer from Dell regarding HDMI Audio on the XPS 1330/1530 series. I keep seeing people post this problem, and others simply saying the "select HDMI audio as the default device"... but they dont say if it works for them. I have spent several weeks trying to get HDMI audio to work on my XPS M1530 with the stock drivers, but no sound to this very day. =[

I have tried to talk to Dell, but they have not been useful, as they wont even help me because I installed Vista Ultimate 64bit on mine, and mine came with 32bit Home Premium (I kid you not, he said "Sorry we do not support 3rd party operating systems")

The setting= "right-click on speaker icon in tray, then select HDMI audio as the default device" works for me. ;)

Ok, i found solution, works fine for me- XPS 1530 with XP Pro, fully updated, especially with KB835221- HD Audio driver package (dont know if its important, but just in case...), We start with rihgt click on volume tray icon and choose "Open volume control", at the bottom of the appeared window click "advanced" tab, in "Other drivers" section we tick "Mute PC speakers" and that's all! The sound goes out thru the HDMI or line out... :)
