Do you think its worth to wait for the new intel coffee lakes instead of the kaby lakes xps 13s? I am wondering if it will be a sustainable upgrade in terms of battery life and performace in general...or just marketing from Intel.

I think the new XPS13 i7 is such a huge jump in (claimed) performance and features it is a no brainer. Part of this is the move to 4 cores. Battery performance should be fine but not light years better. I would definitely wait for the autumn if possible.

Of course the "blending" of generations by Intel makes things a bit more confusing but this XPS13 announcement is superb.

I don't think the XPS 15 refresh will be so compelling however...

It sounds like it will quite the powerhouse Ultrabook I wonder how hot it will run with the quad core, I am sending back the xps 13 I received about a month ago way too many issues and the thing runs really hot.

Who knows, the U processors got big boost in cores and HT but are still a Kaby lake update. 15W TDP likely means the clock will be much lower with all four cores active (base clocks are not high). Maybe the 45W line gets a more significant tech update... I recall 6-core laptop Coffee Lake is scheduled for Q2 2018.

Dell sales rep are saying the upgrade won't happen for 15-18 months in the XPS 13 lol I guess they just want to make the sale right now not in 2 weeks.

Well, this is just a simple refresh of the Skylake / Kaby Lake so don't expect too much. The XPS13 move from 2 to 4 cores is a big move. But say the XPS goes from 4 to 6 cores that might be helpful for some tasks but more cores are more heat unless slower clocks are used.

Given the XPS15 is already well beyond reasonable thermal limits, I don't expect much here unless the XPS15 form factor is changed. Note the XPS13 with i7 8550U seems to have same form factor although this page may not be completed/accurate:
