It's probably for the best that it doesn't stick out at all, but is it finnicky to take out? It looks like it's inset by a mm or two.

It sits in maybe .5 of mm, but is very easy to remove with a paper clip between the right hand side and the case.

After looking through all the macbook oriented alternatives, I decided to go with the Adafruit MicroSD Shortener. It seems just a touch longer than the one in the OP, but you will still need some sort of workaround if you plan on removing it often. I wasn't too keen on the idea of sticking a paperclip in there, so I attached a Post-It flag that I could pinch with my fingernails if I ever wanted to take it out. I'm trying to see if I can find a black version of the post it tab so it's more subtle, but I'm just glad I don't have a cm of hard plastic sticking out anymore.
